Been stuck for a few days with no luck breaking free. This should be interesting as the river is steadily dropping every day. Just north of head of pass.

A Panamax bulk carrier has run aground in the Gulf of Mexico and is being refloated, GAC informed.
The vessel in question is the 77,684 dwt Glory Trader, owned by Greece-based Erasmus Shipinvest.
The incident occurred off New Orleans in the evening hours of June 13 (local time), the bulker’s AIS data shows.
“Due to the grounding and attempt to refloat the M/V Glory Trader at MM 4.6 AHOP, a VTS Measure is in place to prohibit meeting or overtaking between ships and ocean-going tows between MM 4.0 to 5.0 AHP,” GAC said.

Amazing how many days they have been trying to get it free and no luck.
Two weeks ago saw one at head of passes in trouble managed to get it in stuck but it was close.
Amazing how fast it changes down there.

At what point on the river do the river pilots take over?

Not much effect other than current velocity at that point, pretty much remains at sea level, the tide influences more than anything else.

They don't have any rigs with a water jet they could use to blast under the hull?

I know they've been dredging the past month or so

There was probably some BAR pilot on that ship.

It was a crescent pilot that ran aground on it. The route changes to the Bar pilots at Pilottown. Just a little south of where it is stuck.

The river has been bad for a few weeks they closed it to drafts 37' or less 3 weeks ago. Maybe with Thai system coming will help lift it a bit.

I think they just restricted traffic for ships drawing 38' or more to high tide. The max draft was like 44-45. I believe the bar pilots institute those restrictions.
The tug bill getting the ship off is going to be expensive.

Going to be one hell of suped up bill sent out for that one.
One of those cold stacked boats in Houma or fourchon has to have some kind of mega expensive piece of equipment that could be used for this. I don't think they're in the business of turning down work right now

The amount of ship traffic that will now bypass New Orleans will be insane due to the new restrictions. Great news for Houston, Mobile, & Tampa.

What's the latest on this ship? Has it moved yet or is it still stuck?
Posted on 6/19/17 at 7:39 pm to ihometiger
Latest sea tow post says it's almost unstuck
