People who bash U2 are usually completely ignorant. Achtung Baby came out in 1991 and is arguably the greatest alternative rock album ever made. It influenced oasis,Radiohead, Pearl Jam, muse, the killers, and many others. Itis easily a top 10 album of all time, by any metric. It's made even more special because it was a complete reinvention of the band both musically and stylistically.
and then there's Joshua tree.
With all that said, I agree that U2's resurgence in the 2000's is largely bullshite. And they are sanctimonious and annoying as frick. But I celebrate them for their brilliance in the 80s and 90s.

If you are using the OT to judge music, it's a bad bad day.

No Depeche Mode. Jeff Beck is opening.

I hate Bono's politics. I agree about the sanctimonious crap. But I think they got the message since it is the "Joshua Tree" tour. Maybe they are going to skip all their 2000 music.

I hope to pay $250 a ticket to sit in the rafters and be lectured by Bono about how I am ruining the environment and not contributing to the poor enough from my salary right before he collects his million dollar check and jets off in his private plane.

Enjoy the far left comments in between songs
He called H W Bush on the phone while on stage at one of their concerts.

Nope. I'm 36 and would rather put my penis in a blender than see or hear them. I'm also hetero...

Which is another one of the greatest albums of that era. U2 is one of the most critically acclaimed and highest sold bands ever.
Contrarianism is cool.

If the set list is similar to the one for the Houston concert, the only "new" U2 was Beautiful Day and Elevation. They also sang a brand new song to close the show (well, for encore #2)

Yeah, I don't get the bashing on this thread. I saw them in the Superdome in the 90's, and they were great.
If you haven't seen them and they can still put on a decent show, they're absolutely worth catching live.
I don't really care about their politics, I'm there for the entertainment.

Saw them at Bonnaroo last friday and they were incredible. They literally play Joshua tree from cover to cover.
Here's the setlist:
Sunday Bloody Sunday
New Year's Day
Pride (In The Name Of Love)
Where The Streets Have No Name
I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
With Or Without You
Bullet The Blue Sky
Running To Stand Still
Red Hill Mining Town
In God's Country
Trip Through Your Wires
One Tree Hill
Exit / Wise Blood
Mothers Of The Disappeared
encore(s):
Beautiful Day / Under The Bridge
Elevation
Vertigo
Ultra Violet (Light My Way)
One

I think the Joshua Tree is their best album.
I liken the Joshua Tree to Achtung Baby evolution similar to what happened with Pink Floyd. Dark Side of the Moon was the album that put Pink Floyd on the map worldwide. The Wall was the album where they changed more towards a dark, nihilistic side.

I hope you're taking your daughter and not going for yourself. U2 is horrible
