Poche inconsistency last night

This may have already been stated in another thread but I believe Poche'sproblem last night started immediately after the slip on the mound - he ended up walking that batter then giving up the HR and 3 straight walks. Although he didn't appear to be injured, it no doubt affected his mechanics in his stride to the plate, which is easy to get into the head of a pitcher on a slippery mound. I know he's had stretches of inconsistency at times in the past but he's also been brilliant at times. I truly believe he would've avoided last night's debacle if not for the slip. Weirder things than this can cause a big change in a game - re: possum rally, rain delay, freak injury, stupid errors in the field.

I think also he was slightly irritated with the tight strike zone.

I know this might sound stupid but his cleats were coated in mud. I wonder if that affected his stride just slightly enough to get him out of rhythm?

I don't think it was inconsistency. He was absolutely rolling and then just all of a sudden lost it. I hate that for him in his last Box appearance but it is what it is and hopefully he can get 2 more Ws in Omaha for us.

Certainly looked to have gotten into his head. State's hitters did well to lay off of his curve ball, which he wasn't throwing for a strike, that inning, too. What I think was bigger, even after the homer, was Poche not getting two extremely close pitches called for a strike on one batter. He should have K'ed that guy up looking, but ended up walking him. Then the wheels thoroughly came off.
He needs to bounce back. This team will need him to win in Omaha.

His biggest problem.
I found it strange he started so hot, normally it takes him a couple innings to get his grove going.
So his slip may have messed up his zone, who knows.
He just needs to get his mind right and ready for the CWS, the Tigers will need him at his best.

May be unpopular but CPM should consider starting him vs FSU. He's good enough to take them on
Would much rather have Lange vs Oregon St

No doubt he "lost it". But, the slip on the mound started it and the tight strike zone calls that followed immediately exacerbated the problem.

had he not lost his control he probably gets those called.

Started off fine then couldn't throw the curveball for a strike and was inconsistent with his FB location as well. Glad CPM pulled him when he did. He'll bounce back

This definitely was the cause imo. It messed with his sense of balance and that got in his head.
It doesn't take much.

No doubt, and the bi polar strike zone

Grounds crew should have thrown some Quick Dry on the mound after Poche slipped.

Unfortunately, I don't think so.
It was emotion and being unable to handle the moment because of it. You can see how emotional he was in the dugout. Being that amped up affects your ability to play. I thought I heard Ben say he hit 91 on the radar early in the game yesterday. That's crazy for him...and in my opinion a bad sign. Remember, he melted down in the regional too.
For Poche, it's all about location. When he loses it, he gets hit hard.
I don't see how Mainieri could go to Poche in game 2. He's got to go to Walker who has displayed the exact opposite behavior in big spots.

He was absolutely drenched in sweat when he came off the field

I remember the defense melting down against Texas Southern, more so than Poche.

He will bounce back. Occasionally some one will have bad game, but not to worry.
