When did being a moderate become so frowned upon?

What is wrong with being a moderate? Ain't that what being an adult is all about? Give and take? People old and young act as if you must take a heavy handed stance on every single issue. shite has become tiresome. Social media to blame?

I assume this is directed at liberals and Democrats since moderation is part of conservative philosophy, thinking and lifestyle, hence the root word "conserve"

Because the divide between liberal and conservative is more pronounced than ever, so if you haven't figured out which side is to blame for the decimation of our country, then you aren't paying attention and are considered to have an uninformed, worthless opinion.

Its a mask for being an unprincipled opportunist. Not really any more complicated than that.

It is funny. You can be a moderate and the left will call you cold hearted, warhawk, greedy money grubber. The right will call you dirty prog, libtard, cuck.

Who are some moderates on each side? Just curious.

No one frowns on moderates.
We just laugh at the fake ones like a want

When Democrats nominated a far left loon 8 years ago that tried to turn this country into Scandinavia.

Because the country is now so deeply divided that if you're a moderate you're on the "other side" of the person's perspective.

Well Republicans trotted out that goon Mccain which most of this board probably voted for.

How about Trump? He's changed political parties multiples times, and will likely govern with whatever is popular. Certainly more moderate on social issues than Republicans in the past.

McCain is about as moderate as you can get. Unfortunately, he's a craven war-mongerer that would happily jump at the opportunity to get this country into any and every conflict.

Being pragmatic is being weak and lacking good moraled principles. That's part of it. Around here, it's also because "moderates" are mostly center-lefties trying to avoid the "liberal" tag.

If Trump is a moderate, who are some past moderates who mirror his positions and values?

In a Culture War people draw lines in the sand. Being a self-proclaimed moderate used to mean that you saw merit in competing arguments and were ideologically non-committed. That could mean you were a wishy-washy, low-information voter or it could mean you were sincerely conflicted. Now that the camps are so well-defined and honest debate is long-dead, it's more a matter of declaring which side you are on. That's just reality. Being an American is now an entirely different proposition than it used to be, now that we have buried Truth and are cannibalizing our culture with media propaganda.
