Great. Can we force all. Welfare recipients to EB required to do 400 hours of trade education and 20 hours of actual job experience every year or they lose benefits?

They reached that settlement for that scenario. It was reached quickly, because they wanted to use it for their agenda.

10 work weeks.
Who's gonna pay for all that?

Sounds like a lot of future police officers are choosing other careers now.
That may be the idea.

The 400 hours stated is for the training academies only and isn't a yearly mandate - BRPD already more than doubles that number with their academy.
The 20 hours of in-service training is a yearly requirement - BRPD already doubles that amount
This legislation doesn't do shite to BRPD. James knows that. This just allows him to go back to his voters and show them that he did something. It's feel good legislation. It will only effect small town departments.
Maybe what James really wants is for BRPD to cut back their training standards to follow his new "reform" bill so more people can be employable.

It's only a low estimate of $259,200,000 a year.

House Bill 277 would require all peace officers to annually complete a minimum of 400 hours of basic core curriculum training and a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training to remain accredited.
That's quite a number
so they are going to spend 20% of the year in basic core training and another half a week of in-service training? That seems excessive. I'm curious what all is encompassed in this yearly training.

I hope the Police officers are smarter than the posters in this thread. You guys suck at reading comprehension.

what am I missing? It says "House Bill 277 would require all peace officers to annually complete a minimum of 400 hours of basic core curriculum training and a minimum of 20 hours of in-service training to remain accredited"
400 hours is roughly 10 weeks which would be roughly 20% of the year. What am i missing?

So 10 and a half weeks of annual training. Yeah that is totally reasonable.

The text of the actual Bill.
The news article quoted is incorrect.
eta: I also know as fact that the Louisiana Sheriff's Association is the most politically powerful organization in the state yielding more influence than the the Waterboy Governor himself. They would have opposed a 400 hour annual training requirement and the bill would have never made it out of committee.

Stupid fricking Advocate. Yeah the 400 isn't annual only to be certified.

420 hours
This will never happen once JBE gets the bill for this per cop per 400 hours outside their normal shift

Ok. So why is my reading comprehension shitty? It was quoted incorrectly but I read the article correctly. I'm not going through a bunch of research on something that has no bearing on me.

Ted James is an idiot and has always been an idiot. Nevertheless, I'm sure the brain dead morons in NBR will elect him mayor in a few years. This is all setting up a run for mayor for the retard. It's a race to see who can be the most racially divisive nowadays.

It's a shame that we don't have earring boy on broome's prestigious staff any longer. Surely he would have figured out how to make all of this work out.
