Ive only seen them in Texas, you throw out a deer gut pile and they are there in droves.

Didnt know they ranged over here, or maybe its a new thing.

A tropical falcon version of a vulture, the Crested Caracara reaches the United States only in Arizona, Texas, and Florida. It is a bird of open country, where it often is seen at carrion with vultures.

Doesn't sound like we need these around

I'm not a believer in man made global warming, but in general, yes we are on warming trend. The bird activity indicates as much.

So let's focus on something important. It's time the state includes black bellied tree ducks during teal season.

Yeah, the white winged invasion about 5 years ago signalled it to me.

I think they should do that and make them bonus birds, you can kill two a day and not count in your limit or something like that.

I have always thought it odd that Caracaras are grouped with falcons. I also hate repeated syllables.

When we used to hunt in Welsh, all kinds of bird watchers would drive by. I had no idea it was such a big deal. We'd see Asians even. Apparently, it is a nice little tourist niche over that way.

Holmwood to sweetlake is a hotspot for caracaras. That's also home to largest population of wintering Sandhills cranes

I have been watching a pair between Lacassine and Welsh for a year now. I wondered what kind of hawk they were. Now I know.
