quote:

“It’s really a poisonous atmosphere right now,” said one longtime ESPNer who has worked on the show. “Most of us don’t see the show lasting through its contractual end [which is believed to be the end of December]. But I give both these guys immense credit because when the light comes on, you would not know what’s going on. They are pros on air.”

“They are marvelous actors on set,” said another ESPN on-air staffer, who speaks to both Greenberg and Golic. “But they barely even make eye contact with each other these days.”

Golic has every right to be pissed at him. Greenberg went behind Golic's back to get his own show and then didn't even bother telling him when it was done. Golic had to find out about it from an SI article.

I don't know anyone who wouldn't be pissed at such a prick move.

I had heard that Golic thought everything was fine and that the families were very close.

Greenberg pushed for the move to New York that ultimately didn't go through. After that he was pissed and began negotiating for his own show behind Golic's back.

Golic found out and was apparently deeply hurt and extremely pissed. That's when we started seeing all of the co-hosts rotate in about a year and half to two years go.

So now they hate each other, basically.

It's probably those stupid commercials that Greenberg writes and Golic is forced to do. Plus the fact that dumbass Greenberg has sucked up enough that he make like $4 mil a year and Golic is stuck at around $700,000.

If I had to choose which one was the douche that caused this, I'd say Greenberg. He seems like the whiny stat nerd that got a journalism degree and thinks he knows more than players that actually played. By the way, he loves the Jets if he didn't tell you that enough in the 20 years that he had the show.

I'm still trying to figure out how Greeny can carry a solo show. The only thing he is good at is the advertising reads, which seem to be pretty much non stop on that show

quote:

“From Golic’s perspective, he thinks Mike [Greenberg] should have come to him and told him he wanted to do his own thing,” said one of the ESPN-ers. “But Greeney is very non-confrontational, truly a nice a guy, and he would say that it wasn’t incumbent on him to tell Golic everything about what he wanted to do professionally. I guess I can see both sides.”

I never really cared to listen to them, but that's kind of a shame on Greenberg's part. It just seems like common decency to tell a friend you want to do something else, particularly if your decision is going affect them professionally. If he's really your friend, why would you feel like hiding it is a good idea?

Golic seems like a genuine dude who has a good rapport with everyone, going back to his playing days. If Greenberg had just been up front with him, I bet Golic would be supportive and they'd be fine.

This just seems like something you would expect from Greenberg. I think Golic seems like a good dude and at least a heads up from Mr. Berg that he wanted to go in a different direction.

If Greenberg makes 6.5 million, no one should ever joke about paying athletes too much money. There are probably hundreds of sports talking heads across the country that could do better than him, and they'd do it for a fraction of the salary.

I can guarantee Golic feels 100 percent betrayed by Greenburg. No doubt.

On a personal level, I can see that. But, on a professional level, it's a business.

I imagine the wives are throwing daggers at each other.

Anyone remember Golic with Tirico calling college games on ABC in the late '90s? I don't know why ESPN made the bold announcement to move the show to NYC, then suddenly pull a 180 a year later. The few times I have listened I would have thought they were BFF's for life.

They probably secretly blame each other for the hate the show gets. It's ESPN they should be mad at, trying to hype the same guests for the same topics.

Oh, and they both suck too so they should look in the mirror.

It's funny when you watch the show, I noticed they never make eye contact anymore. You can tell things have changed/

If I were Golic, I would not be able to be around that little weasel either. At least Golic acts like MAN and cracks me up when he talks about drinking beer and eating good food.
