An interesting observation from three High School graduation speeches

So. I've attended three High School graduations this year. Admittedly this is still anecdotal evidence. But here's an interesting observation. All three valedictorians included in their speeches negative references to Safe spaces. All three discuss the virtues of maturely engaging those you disagree with. And all three received strong Applause from their High School audience
Is it possible that the younger people coming up behind the College wackos of the last six or seven years see the wackos for what they are?
I mean I don't know. Maybe my sample set is just unusual. But I found it interesting

I've run across a few studies that the Generation coming behind the Millennials is much, much more conservative.
Not surprising since that type of thing is usually on a pendulum.

It's probably more of a function of where you live.

I hope so.

I have a lot of hope for Gen Y'rs. This millennial generation will go down as the most lost, retarded and socially inept generation in history.

In some views, yes. Their overall ideology is more "mixed". Think socially as classic liberals, politically as classic conservatives.
AKA - not like anyone in politics today that calls themselves either.

For our country's sake I hope this to be true. We cannot handle another generation of a wants, toddy's, montanagator, BamaAtl's, etc.

Depends. If you went to three graduation ceremonies in major metropolitan areas in the cities and inner-ring suburbs which tend to be more liberal you'd hear different things.
I agree that the concept of safe spaces has been abused by the left, but it's no different than when a group of college republicans gather in a room at the Union and talks conservative politics.

Safe spaces are the "participation trophy" of current debate. Something to express anger against that is, at best, an ultra tiny blip on the formation of a person's life.
Participation trophies were WAY overblown. So are these.

I've read that as well. My son just graduated and I can tell you than he and his friends are much more conservative than I am and I am pretty conservative.

I'm 24, I can't say I ever met more than handful of people through college that believe in the safe space foolishness. Most millenials in college are normal folk.

I've noticed that my oldest kids (19,20) and their friends reject leftist ideology. Bigly. Obviously this is just more anecdotal evidence but it seems like I read a study not too long ago that indicated a shift.
The pendulum always swings back.

Most middle class kids raised by conservative leaning parents will turn out to be conservative. This isn't rocket appliances, people.

The consolation prize of the Safe Space mentality in the future, is that when things get serious, they will be huddled in a corner and out of the way.

That's certainly true for my kids but they are actually even more conservative than we are. Most of their friends' parents aren't conservatives.

Absolutely. I'm sure some valedictorian speeches in California and Oregon were the opposite, and liberal beyond belief.
