Those parents are so dumb. It's part of the game. Go play soccer.
I remember a similar play happened when I was in little league where I was the catcher, but the base runner lowered his shoulder before leveling right through me. I ended up on my arse, and was a little shook up, but I made the tag when I took the contact and held onto the ball. The runner was ejected for leading with his shoulder and after the game my dad said, "good job."

All you idiots saying the baserunner should have slid are, well, idiots.
That's not baseball. How many catchers go out and try to make a tag like THAT? I bet if you saw that in the majors or college, home boy would have been ejected for that play.
He protected the ball, he protected home plate, but making the "tag" like that? No. Unnecessary.
It was a bad play, plain and simple.

What would be the proper protocol for the catcher?
Kid is running at him full speed and he is probably protecting himself as much as the ball or plate.
And for sliding up the basepath, shouldn't the catcher go up in case the runner holds up and heads back to third?

Catcher should play on the OL with that kind of punch.

Was that poor soccer-player's head stuck in that baseball helmet that went flying?

I love the horrified snowflake reactions of the parents.
OMG, it's sports.

Well, he learned a lesson.
ETA: I mean, what the hell was he thinking. He had three options: lower your shoulder, slide, turn around. He chose the fourth option: stare up at the sky and run.

Just like most big hits in any sport, it was a confluence of circumstances. The base runner never expected the catcher to come flying up the line. The catcher knew he had to tag someone running at him at full speed. If the catcher pussy-foots in there and stops he gets run over.
If you are running down the line and someone gets in your way, you better (A) keep running hard through the collision or (b) try to avoid the collision. The baserunner was shocked at pulled up slightly at the last second. The catcher didn't![](https://images.tigerdroppings.com/Images/Icons/IconLOL.gif)

That had to be up north. Down here the parent would say" shake that shite off boy you alright "

WTF was that baserunner doing?
Must have been a botched hit and run play where the batter missed the sign.
I'm sure the catcher expected the runner to stop or try to go back to third... but nope, he just kept on coming.

Kid lucky he didn't eat the baseball. And the coach is a dumbass for sending the kid home while batter swinging away (if they didn't screw up the signals).
