Talking about the color of shirts we now buy.... It's not the true purple like it used to be. Don't get me wrong, I like the color.... Just curious when the switch was made.

I like the old bluer purple and classic gold from way back, not the new yellow gold.

And I think the Geaux font is cheesy, but that's another topic. LSU will keep playing with colors, designs, and fonts to keep licensing fees churning.

Been wondering the same thing. The football uniform uses both. Dark purple on the helmet and much lighter purple on the jersey and pants stripe. The inconsistency makes us look like a high school team.

So which shade of purple is correct??? I think it's the darker ( look at football unis from the 70s and 80s). But now-- who knows.

They didn't make a switch. It's the clarity/resolution of the TV's now.

I actually was wondering the same thing...in Starkville, I actually had trouble recognizing some LSU fans because their shirts were blue instead of purple. I thought it must be some bootlegged shite they had bought, but I saw a heck of a lot before done.

Royal purple is our official color. It is more blue than the jerseys.

Looks purple to me, but I remember when the gold was actually gold instead of banana yellow.

it was a gradual change over the course of the last 10 years from purple to the current blue hue. The gold was changed to yellow 30 years ago at least.

I had the same question. It's the stadium lights during the night games. Check out the color during a day game and you'll see the difference.

It came after a long and harrowing process that started in a Chechnyan orphanage. After many favors being called in from the ambassador of the US embassy in Chechnya and many bribes paid...we finally brought the color home.

I'll downvote myself...

LSU's first "official colors" were actually blue and white and changed to purple and gold in 1893.

I have this coffee mug.
