When did LSU adopt the bluish/purple color?

Talking about the color of shirts we now buy.... It's not the true purple like it used to be. Don't get me wrong, I like the color.... Just curious when the switch was made.

I like the old bluer purple and classic gold from way back, not the new yellow gold.
And I think the Geaux font is cheesy, but that's another topic. LSU will keep playing with colors, designs, and fonts to keep licensing fees churning.

Been wondering the same thing. The football uniform uses both. Dark purple on the helmet and much lighter purple on the jersey and pants stripe. The inconsistency makes us look like a high school team.
So which shade of purple is correct??? I think it's the darker ( look at football unis from the 70s and 80s). But now-- who knows.

They didn't make a switch. It's the clarity/resolution of the TV's now.

I actually was wondering the same thing...in Starkville, I actually had trouble recognizing some LSU fans because their shirts were blue instead of purple. I thought it must be some bootlegged shite they had bought, but I saw a heck of a lot before done.

Royal purple is our official color. It is more blue than the jerseys.

Looks purple to me, but I remember when the gold was actually gold instead of banana yellow.

I love the bluish purple and yellow. Much more vivid and looks great on tv. Don't care for the flat, dull shade of purple.

That dull shade of purple comes from a season of use!

The gold in the helmets and pants before 1972 was a considerably deeper hue than today's, it was more of a yellow orange and somehow the Tigers looked more aggressive and confident wearing them (try to find a YouTube broadcast of Notre Dame vs LSU, 1971 as an example). It was AWESOME!

I like the current LSU colors of yellow gold and bluish purple much more than the old time old gold deep purple uniforms we use to wear

it was a gradual change over the course of the last 10 years from purple to the current blue hue. The gold was changed to yellow 30 years ago at least.

I mean JHC, hasn't this been covered enough?
What this means is that LSU doesn't wear purple jerseys enough.

LSU gold jersey's were real gold instead of yellow.I liked the gold much better because we aren't purple & gold anymore . Just blue & yellow!
