What is their reason for all of the sudden doing this? Pretty ridiculous... I'm assumig it has something to do with Broome.

Live after five will be a dead event soon if they continue to enforce it

Most of the bars downtown attract a super douche crowd. 1913, City Bar, Huey's... even Happy's is the white sunglasses crowd now.

I frequent third street. You're telling me the crowd is the same as a couple years ago?

Yes, that's exactly what I'm telling you. If anything it's gotten younger and whiter, in an ed hardy kind of way. If seeing a few black people in public throws you off of an area I'm not sure what you're doing going out in BR period.

Wonder if this new found draconianism will extend to parade season. You start handing out tickets during Psamishtowj/St Pattys day and this town will riot

Why would open containers be overlooked by police?

It's a large open area of multiple bars/restaurants that is decently nice to walk around in, and the city has spent lots of money revitalizing it over the last decade or so, put on outdoor events, etc. Part of the appeal is being able to walk around, sometimes with a drink. Cops have always turned a blind eye as long as you weren't causing trouble or stumbling. Has helped the area grow IMO.

And if the police and stupid mouth breathers fck this up with silly enforcement of dumb laws, they deserve the hell they get when the whole area goes down and most of these places close.

Literally the complete opposite. The area has done a complete 180 over the past 25 years in the best possible way, and that increadible reversal is now starting to spill over into neighboring Downtown East and Old South Baton Rouge. The areas in decline are mostly on the east side of town along Florida Blvd, in the area around St. John apartments, the neighborhoods around Staring, and some of the older flooded subdivisions. The crime isn't really spilling over much from North Baton Rouge into nicer areas with the exception of a few high profile armed robberies in Mid City, but those culprits have been caught.

Baton Rouge was booming big time up until the Sterling stuff, cuts to TOPS, and the flood last summer. The only question is whether the boom will continue despite the problems.
