People who don't pay their HOA dues

are some of the most low-class people in society. You're basically stealing from your neighbors because they have to pay higher dues to cover for you until your move out and the lien is collected, which could be decades.
And then a subdivision like U-Club posts the names of these people in their newsletter, some of them high-profile public figures, and they still don't care.
Pay your bills, or don't move there in the first place.

I live in Old Dutchtown and we only have two non-payers as of yesterday. That is out of maybe 150 homes.

Generally speaking HOA's are a waste of money.
Why let someone else tell you what you can and can't do with your property?

This. Anyone who lives in an HOA is a chump

and why do you have to give them money? so that some bored housewife can spend it on shite the neighborhood will never use?

I am sure at some point in the beginning HOA's were a great idea to keep up and beautify a neighborhood and common areas of said neighborhood. Also to keep people from trashing up very nice neighborhoods.
Having said that, people try to put up an HOA for every hood now, and it's brewed a bunch of entitled, stuck up neighbors, who feel it is the right to nose into everyone's business. They also feel it is their right since they are on the HOA board, to tell everyone how to keep up their yard and house.

Because I don't have people parking their junk cars in their driveway, putting up yard ornaments, grass up to their hips, etc.

Because legally you agree to give them money with the purchase of your home within a HOA restricted subdivision/ neighborhood

Our HOA takes care of the common areas and recently worked with the parish to repave our road.
While HOA's can be overreaching, they are still neccessary.

HOA dues are stupid
Besides keeping up common areas and whatnot, it's an insurance policy against shitty neighbors.

Then don't move into a subdivision with an HOA.
Those dues cover landscaping and upkeep of common grounds, lakes, etc that everyone in the subdivision benefits from. If you don't want to pay for those things, don't move in. It's really simple.

Just curious what the HOA fees are for U-Club?
In Houston, most if not all subdivisions have HOA fees. We live in an average subdivision and its $850/year. Trash is included in that, and there are a couple pools, tennis courts, about 8 playgrounds, etc...

I hate HOA's. I'd never live in a neighborhood with one.

Move to a better neighborhood?
I have never had this problem in multiple states I have lived in and never once lived in an HOA.
If you're an OT baller and want a mcmansion with a security entrance and a golf course/country club/ski resort next to you, than maybe an HOA might be justified.
For the other 98% it's an excuse for people to pretend they're important and exclusive, not to mention a property rights give away.
