Just read the article, which isn't written much better than the OP. Very misleading

How this gets downvotes I don't understand. She is terrible. I can't watch a damn SNB game because of her awful announcing.

No, it's not. It's business and it quite often sucks, but not a scumbag move.

Are they supposed to employ her for life just because she was on maternity leave? They could have laid her off before she went out on leave....which is preferable?

ESPN is paying everyone through the length of their contract not to work. They're free to find another job and if they do, then the contract with ESPN is voided and they stop paying. It's weird that's how ESPN chose to handle the lay offs, but in this case, as long as her contract isn't ending very soon, this isn't a horrible thing.

Does that mean Disney can call them back in to train their cheap H1B replacements?

That is an important piece of the Disney model.

Just say it, because she's a female.

They can never fire Jemelle Hill. She is black & female. Can you imagine the kind of discrimination lawsuit she would file if she was fired? ESPN reaps what they sow.

Or the fact that they just signed new contracts and the buyouts would be expensive. They fired black women and men during this

does that mean they are still getting their insurance as well? that would be the big thing i'd be concerned about if i was one of these laid off employees.

BRUTAL. I told my wife the other day that I'm not opposed to a female announcer. hell Jenny Finch does a fine job. Mendoza is just terrible. It is like she is explaining baseball to someone who hasn't seen it before. I mute the game most times.

Yes, they are still employees of ESPN, but not allowed to work. That means ESPN is meeting the requirements of each contract by maintaining all benefits until the end of the contract.

It's odd, but as someone else said Disney wanted blood, as in ESPN is addressing the downturn in profit.

How is that scumbag move? They fired a ton of other employees, and waited for her to use up her maternity leave before they fired her.

It sucks for her, but what the hell do you want them to do? Keep her on for two weeks and then fire her?

It is a heartstring title. Same as using Veteran

"Marine veteran beaten up in bar fight"

It catches people and immediately gets their emotion going, and once that happens these days, the comments start flying without even reading the article that lets you know the marine veteran was trying to put it in a married womans butt and was knocked out

I almost put ex-Marine instead of Marine vet, just so I could have a couple of mad old men tell me "There is no ex-Marine, once a marine always a marine. Hooorah!!!!!"
