Remember when some fricktards thought greyson was a good pick? This would have been worse.

Just admit that you don't know how to write coherently. Glad I could help.

Mahomes is not worth a top 15 pick. Probably not even first round.
He's actually worth a first, 2 thirds, and a fourth

It's a nice spin. That isn't how it went down. They wanted the QB and Foster. Lost both of them.

Andy Reid and CSP both think he's worth a 1st rounder plus. I'll have to go with them over a poster on the net who thinks otherwise.
CSP said he was impressed in his workouts, so if he felt he could step in after Drew retires and lead this team then I would be good with the pick. I'd rather have a top QB waiting in the wings than scrambling for a QB when Drew calls it quits which could be anytime.

It makes me wonder if Reid tried to trade with the Saints, but were turned down, so they jumped them. There was no reason for Reid to trade for the #10 pick when they could have easily traded the Saints for the #11 to get the same QB.

I think Reid and (evidently) Payton see his potential as Brett Favre Big arm gunslinger who just ran around in college and made some great throws and some horrible throws. Reid helped mold Favre. I guess he thinks he can do the same with Mahomes.
Of all the available QBs, he likely has the best chance of becoming a star

Saints pick #11
#10 traded back
#12 traded back
Saints pick #32
#31 traded back
#33 was GB pick from an earlier trade back
Both Saints 1st round picks were sandwiched between trade backs (3) or a pick (33) that was a result of a trade back.
I'd have a hard time believing Saints were simply excluded from trade back conversations at #11. #32 was a different beast, but #32 is a prime trade back spot, especially considering the guy they wanted just got picked.

We didn't trade back because the 3rd or 4th player on their board was falling to them. If they trade back he won't be there later.
Plus if Lattimore did come off they were happy with Mahomes falling to them.
They figured they either get a VERY good player or the potential future of the franchise.
And the niners jumped us. We were sitting for Foster but still had him, Ramcyzk and another unnamed player on the board, all with mid first round grades.

Have the Saints ever traded back in the 1st round under Loomis/Payton?
Posted on 4/29/17 at 9:07 pm to drizztiger
No. Someone they want and have valued at the pick always falls to them.
They said if they ever had a situation where no players were valued as high as the pick they would trade back. Hasn't happened in the first yet.

As per our discussion earlier this morning, I don't need you to explain the Saints thought process.
I understand the Lattimore pick. I like the Lattimore pick.
But the Saints history of being trade back averse is glaring.
And personally I don't agree with their philosophy. The deal the Brown got, moving back to #25 and getting a 1st next year is a more prudent move IMO.

What if Mahomes turns out to be awesome?

I think you ought to review the history of QBs taken in the first round. Odds are Payton and Reid are wrong. Many of those disappointments were far greater "locks" than Mahomes.

Lmfao if this doesn't confirm Payton's absolute stupidity when it come to the draft, even to the idiot fans who swallowed that shite sandwich of a draft this year and convinced themselves it was good, nothing will.

They're all tossups, im just saying if CSP liked the kid and thought he'd be a good heir to Drew i wouldnt have had a problem with the pick. I'd rather have a top prospect waiting than a 3rd round project for when the day comes.

I understand having Drew's replacement on board, but not with a really questionable prospect at pick 11. Even if Lattimore wasn't there, there were about 30 other guys who would have been a better choice.
If Payton really was going to spend 11 on Mahomes with our historically bad defense, it may be just about time for him to go. Last year Goff was a much better prospect and that guy is a disappointment.

It wouldnt have been a popular selection because of that reason, but the day is approaching that the saints will draft a QB high to follow Drew.

I believe 70% or so of a players career is all about circumstance. Look at Drew in S.D ... Takes the right player with the right coach to make it work. How many times you see a dominant player chase the money to another team and just fall off?

We will not sniff the playoffs this year and hopefully this train wreck will be over. If he's allowed to stay longer he will continue to sink us deeper and deeper. We have a top 5 QB and we are the only franchise with one that isn't even a player in the title race for one reason Sean Payton.
