Who wants an MLB team in NOLA?

I'd love to have one here, but could we support it?

No, too many Cubs fans

No way. One think to fill a dome for 8 games a year, it's another to fill a stadium for 81

I would love one here. I don't think the state could support it though.

Put it between Hammond and NO, draw from BR, Laffy, and NO
It could work, draw an average of 15-17k per game.

I would love to see it, I'd go down and watch several times per year.
I don't think it would be a success overall though.
Easier to support 8 football games per year, or a basketball arena that seats 30-40% of an MLB stadium for half as many home games.

New Orleans has trouble supporting a minor league team, much less a major league team. Now, they certainly didn't do the Zephyrs/Baby Cakes any favors by building the stadium off of Airline.
That said: (1) they wouldn't get the consistent support for 81 games, (2) the weather is less than ideal during baseball season, and (3) you always have the threat of an impending hurricane(s) looming.
There are plenty of other attractive options for the MLB to expand: Salt Lake City, Portland, Charlotte, Columbus, Louisville, Nashville.

Agreed. I said for a while that it could be supported. But the more I think about it the less it makes sense.
Nola would be the smallest market team by a decent margin. Even if you include BR. Too many diehard college baseball fans in a state that has incredibly high attendance for their home teams.

I don't understand this quote.
More people would go to major league sports than minor leagues.

Yeah not the same thing at all

I don't think a MLB team would work based on NOLA market size.
They reasons you listed are a non factors
Only 81 games.
NOLA already has a dome.
Hurricanes? Really? How does Miami do it with all these hurricanes messing up the schedule

I'd much rather go to Houston than New Orleans to watch a MLB game.

I do, but I doubt the city would support an MLB team.

Fair enough, but there are bigger cities that shown they will support their minor league team.
It really isn't that they're diehard _________ (insert minor league team) fans. It's that going to multiple games throughout the year at the baseball park appeals to them and they have the disposable income to do so.
In New Orleans, I believe it would be a mere novelty.

Baseball is an excuse to hang out and drink. I'd think we'd do well. Also, frick Houston. I hate that place.
There's no where else to watch baseball on the Gulf Coast, think about all the ncaa fans who could go watch their favorite drafted players in their own backyards.
