How to Improve Louisiana's Interstate System and Raise Revenue without a Budget Increase

Its truly simple.
Restrict 18 wheeler traffic to far right lanes only.
If they are in any other lane (not for good reason) ticket them.
Raise money, increase traffic flow, profit??

This may be the dumbest plan I've ever heard

Yes, ticketing 18 wheelers should cover the $12 billion backlog.

If it makes good fiscal and social sense, Louisiana will always do the opposite. You can take that to the bank.

how about cops just follow you around and ticket you every time you violate even the slightest road law?

get ExxonMobile to come to Louisiana and build a brand new facility to help with our tax base.....jobs, infrastructure.....
....oh wait

18 Wheelers are the few vehicles on the road that have restrictions to what they can and cannot do.
You want to change an already independent variable?

I have no idea why Baton Rouge doesn't build a loop similar to I-220 in Shreveport/Bossier. Make it a toll road and everyone wins.
We really wanna improve our roads, schools and budget? Legalize Marijuana and Sports Betting. My 14 year old nephew got caught with pot the other day, hell I was buying it when I was 13/14 as well. It's literally easier for kids to buy weed than it is to buy cigarettes. The conservative mindset will never allow it happen but it's a get out of jail free card that is just sitting there for the taking.

Gray area that will result in a lot of tickets being thrown out which will result in even more money and resources wasted.

To start, only use fuel excise taxes for roads.

Build the BR loop and the NOLA south bypass loop through the westbank from I-310 and cross the river to connect at I-510. Make both toll roads like Texas uses for some freeways and the roads will pay for themselves and then some

Playing along for a second it will never work. 18 wheelers are restricted to the right hand lane on the high rise in new orleans and the Basin Bridge but they never obey it and I've never seen one pulled over for it in 30 years

how bout stop spending soo much
Posted on 4/20/17 at 7:37 am to JusTrollin
LA already has enough tax revenue. We don't need to keep funding their spending problem.

They need to start cracking down on big developments that dump tons of traffic on roads that can't handle it. They should force big developments to pay to expand the road BEFORE they can build.
Ex. OLOL expansion with no added parking, no alternative way of traffic getting to the interstate except by Hennessey blvd that has 4 crosswalks stopping traffic.
How about Perkins Rowe? Should have made them expand Bluebonnet and make over pass to not block traffic.

Won't happen. Trucking industry is too powerful.

tolls. It's easy really. And the market is thirsty for the municipal debt that would be used to build the thing.
Posted on 4/20/17 at 9:12 am to JusTrollin
Pulling over 18 wheelers more often is going to cause more accidents.
Posted on 4/20/17 at 9:21 am to JusTrollin
I agree. On the 3 lane sections, limit trucks to the right two lanes.
We have shitty infrastructure with very little operational redundancy. When those things crash, they close the whole road for hours.
