Yes. It is another outlet that is unconventional and is more popular with younger people. Youtube gives you on demand access to any poster using their site with a simple search function. That anytime access is a huge game changer.

and one last thing...people don't want 1 billion choices. anyone can upload some shite. not really the case with tv as you have finite amount of air time.

What are you complaining about?

I don't mean to downplay what youtube DOES bring to the table
like you mentioned. you can watch it anytime, but I don't see that being a problem with DVR...no one is forgoing one show to watch another...then there's on demand radio...I get what youtube brings to the table, but I think the impact is so fricking overstated

i'm not complaining. I really like podcasts and youtube. I just don't see it as a reinvention of the wheel nor do I think people working in television or radio should be filling out job applications.

I'm going to be honest. I have no idea what your point is, or even what you're responding to.

youtube is the 2nd biggest search engine behind Google, brah
and if alternative outlets weren't a threat, traditional outlets like WSJ wouldn't be trying to delegitimize Pewdiepie
Philip Difranco goes into some details on this on JRE
making it on an outlet like Joe Rogan can make you famous (in the market at least). that's real media power

I think he's saying that podcasters and YouTube stars have bigger egos than they deserve.
So people who broadcast their personalities out to strangers are vein, pretty groundbreaking stuff.

Folks enjoy being able to search through thousands of options for particular subjects that interest them instead of having to listen to the morning DJ's laugh at their own jokes while reading a story on a rooster that wears a hat.
I haven't listened to the radio in months. I either listen to podcasts that I enjoy or stream music that is tailored particularly to my tastes.

Perhaps, but a medium that is incredibly popular among a younger generation should not be disregarded so casually. The generations keeping traditional mediums alive is not getting any bigger.

And Sam Harris is for sure one of them. I agree with him on quite a bit but my goodness he's an ego maniac.

Yes they do. That's why traditional media is getting left in the dust.
