While i respect and adult's decision to make their own life choices, as repeatedly pointed out it leaves others at risk of paying for your stupidity. Until we get rid of that, buckle up.

One is an idiot for not wearing a seatbelt. With that said, it should not be a law. Just another example of insurance companies and the government being in bed together.

I am against seatbelt law. Sure there are times to wear one and I think it's smart to wear one. I'm just against it being mandatory.

Why not make people wear helmets and dress up in nascar gaer? All in the name of insurance premiums?

It was made a primary violation for a reason, to pull people over. I think it should be a secondary violation, if anything.

I brought up a point a while back about a person who ran into a ditch and was drowned because they were trapped by the seat belt. Or another who got rear ended while sitting still and burned alive, trapped by seat belt.

At 70 MPH on the interstate, I am wearing one, tooling down a neighborhood street, naw. It is law that is used to make money and conform the masses. Car radios cause more accidents than seat belts do, so are you ready to outlaw those too?

I'm torn, my sister was saved by not wearing a seat belt when she was 18 years old. She was hit by an 18 wheeler and ejected from the car. If she would have been buckled she would have been killed because the car was completely pancacked.

A friend of mine was wearing his seat belt when he got in a head on collision. Due to the seat belt locking, it snapped his neck and he died.

I'm sure more people are saved by seat belts than killed, but I think as an adult you should be able to make that decision for yourself.

I always wear mine for the record.

It does affect others via higher insurance rates we pay for your personal choice.

So does soft drinks, chips, hamburgers etc. we should ban them all immediately.

Dangerous activities such as hunting, fishing, and ATV riding must go as well, cant be passing the cost on to the general public for any trips to the ER.

Like seatbelts, hate that it is a law.

Don't like it? Move to New Hampshire. Same for motorcyclists and helmets.

I believe in Louisiana it is considered a non-moving violation and therefore doesn't effect your insurance rate.

Don't like them.

It's government intrusion.

Doesn't affect anyone other than the person not wearing the seatbelt. The insurance rate argument is absurd. Car insurance pays out for damage to vehicles. Not affected by seat belts. Health insurance pay outs are the only thing, but by this logic, they should mandate safety precautions on 1,000 other things before this.

Whether or not you're injured in a wreck because no seatbelt being worn doesn't affect the health of anyone else.

You missed the point. Some here are claiming higher injuries by not wearing seat belts thereby increase of premiums.

I don't want someone who gets seriously injured in an accident to cause my insurance to go up when there wouldn't be any injuries if they had worn their seat belt.

health insurance covers this

seatbelt laws aren't the only way the government keeps you tied down btw

some of you people say you're for small government and then believe in laws that keep you chained up to a car seat

I think it's completely fricking idiotic to not wear one.

But, if you don't want to, I don't care. Just don't:

-Hold people responsible if someone in their car doesn't wear one
-Increase someone's insurance if you die because of an at-fault accident by not wearing your seatbelt and they were in the other car
-Cry when you die/are a veggie because you didn't

I wont back out of the driveway without my seatbelt on i also dont text while driving but neither should be a law, seatbelts are a matter of personal freedom, texting either until i see statistics that show otherwise, initial ones show texting laws actually increased accidents due in part to drivers just lowering the phones.. education instead of laws.

The only person I know who feels this way about seat belts is someone that has trouble holding a job because he gets in fights with his bosses. Got fired once for fighting with two high school kids while on a work site. He got thrown out of a softball game for cusing at an ump while subbing on my official work team. He let a lady that used to work with me support him between heavy construction jobs. Pretty sure he broke the seat belt drive on her car. He is just one of those people who doesn't want people telling him what he can and can't do.

Not saying I disagree with personal choice but come on man. How is a seatbelt going to "cause" a wreck. I remember thinking how stupid this law was at the beginning and how strange it felt to have to wear one. Have a few seatbelt tickets myself. Now not wearing a seatbelt feels strange.

I hate the way shoulder belts constrict me and make it impossible to access my pockets but I wear them because I am not stupid
