This is a good spot. Bring a few rods and dead scrimps also. You will catch some interesting stuff.
I threw a topwater once there for ten minutes pestering a huge gar. Finally foul hooked him and all the "chirrens" went apeshit. I handed my rod to one of them. Big mistake. Almost lost the rod and cussed a little. I thought his momma was going to whip my arse. She probably could have. She was a very large woman. We packed our shite and went and bought crabs in Holly Beach.
Anyway, it's a good spot. Get there early because it will be crowded later in the day.

Speckled trout carcasses work amazing in crab traps

Marinated cut up chicken quarters. Go to my honey hole, spread em out and let soak for 90 minutes. Anchor up in the middle of all the pots and use 2 of these

Turn on the tunes.
Eat good food, enjoy some adult beverages and have a blast.

Crabhawk fold up crab trap. Hook it to a swivel on your rod. You can cast it but I just weight it down and drop it. When it hits the bottom it opens up. When you reel it in it closes up.

I can't believe all the peopl ein here talking about hand lining crabs..........
You people never use crab nets or traps?
Get you some nets and throw em out off a bank let soak and run every 20 minutes or so..........
Chicken, turkey necks or melt for bait.

Alright, now you've got me wanting to order a few of these Crabhawks.
Are they decent quality? Do they work pretty well?

I've used the same 2 5 times this winter in not so great conditions in 30' water on a incoming tide and they're ready to go for next season. 19 bucks apiece. Once pulled up 3 Dungeness keepers. Have had a dozen or so little guys in it too at once. I'm using a heavy rod with 80 lb braid but that's in rough water/wind. They seem well put together. I just zip tie a lead to it and there's a bait post to hook the chicken.
I'll post a better pic.
Resting on the bottom opened up.

Bait post and there's a clip that holds it.

As soon as you start reeling in it snaps it closed.

This. Just don't make the mistake of going on a weekend unless you plan to get out there at about midnight and feel like fighting a gang.
