Costco almost every time.

If you wanted to splurge - Costco has the best deal on prime beef that I've ever seen. And it's actually good prime too. It's obviously not $8/pound but I feel like it's a good 25-30% cheaper than the prime meat at our butcher (and almost as good). Seriously check it out - maybe not for your party of 12, but when you are just cooking a couple it's worth it - so much better than choice.

Costco has the better quality meat, but not the better quality everything as some have suggested.

Costco. The lamb alone is worth it. Sam's "lamb" is more like some 25 year old sheep that has been comforting the Clemson lads for a couple decades.

I can't speak to the mating habits of male Clemson students but I agree about the lamb. It's incredible. I fricking love lamb

Costco is slightly better quality, but their prices are usually more than slightly higher.

Sams has good quality meats. I do buy from both.

I have tried them both and I think the ribeyes are better from Sam's.

Costco needle tenderizes unnecessarily. Be careful if you're cooking for oldies or preggos

Who was the poster a while back that was stating that Whole Foods, Costco, Sams, etc. all used the same supplier for things like organic chicken?
I would definitely expect the same for mass wholesale clubs to use very similar meats, but just market them differently.
Perhaps Costco marks their meat down, but sells charcoal for a higher price.

My father in law has a product that he recently got in to Costco. After the quality control and processes they put him through, he swears he will buy ANYTHING from Costco no questions asked when it comes to quality.

Guys, there are four major beef packers in the US:

Cargill (Excel)
Tyson
National
Swift

They all source beef from the same feed lots. They are all subject to the same USDA Graders and grading system.

Sam's and Costco both use all of them. Their buyers call the 4 beef packers and make deals... their goal is to beat the USDA published market price for that particular primal. Most supermarkets also use these same packers.

So, a USDA Choice Angus Ribeye at Sam's is exactly the same on average as the USDA Choice Angus Ribeye from Costco. Neither company has any special beef magic that makes theirs better.

Now, there is still some variability within the choice grade, so you may have had a better eating experience from a Ribeye you got from Costco than one you got from Sam's or vice-versa, but the question of "who has better meat?" is silly, because they both source their beef from the same four companies.

Trust me on this. I work for one of the packers and have sold literally millions and millions of pounds of beef. I know how this works.

Until Sams sells USA Prime like Costco it's going to be Costco. It's not even close.

Now this is true... Prime>Choice. But On an apples-to-apples grade cut, there is no difference. Period.
