Looking at purchasing a new ZTR to cut my 5 acres. Some smooth, some rough ground. Had a Dixie Chopper silver eagle 25hp 50 inch cut and motor blew on me.
Looking at Gravely ZT HD 60 inch, but want opinions on what you think is best mower around the $5000-$6000 range.

You'll want at least 60". Still gonna take you 1.5-2 hours id guess. I'd get an in shape, used commercial unit for that much turf.

I used to cut right at 8 acres on a scag turf tiger 60" and I've done 7 acres on a John Deere diesel that was probably 72" or something. It was huge.
Out of those two I'd take the scag. That John Deere was ignorantly powerful but also ignorantly huge and heavy. It would sink through blacktop. I think I could go just as fast on the skag because with zero turns, the yard determines max speed more than the machine. If it has any semblance of roughness to it, you can only go so fast before you just can't hold on anymore.

Check out the Bad Boy and Spartan ztr mowers. Both are hard to beat for the price.

I bought a 50" Dixie Chopper in 04 and have had absolutely zero problems. Oil and filter change only thing I've had to do.
Love it

Commercial Hustler or Big Dog mowers. American made by the same company. Great mowers.

I cut 4 acres with a 60 inch Turf Tiger. I can cut, weed eat, edge, and blow everything in less than 2.5 hours if I'm booking it. What ever you do, look at them all, sit in the seat, and get comfortable. The suspension seat on the Scag is a life saver. The liquid cooled Kawasaki is just about bulletproof too!
Edited to add- it is double your budget but, you know the old saying. You get what you pay for.

All these brands below have a solid reputation, dealers in most markets to repair your product, and all are a good price versus value products.
Gravely
Toro
Scagg
I would stay away from badboy or Spartan due to the 60" units love to throw belts.

I bought a new Scag freedom z pro in 2015. I think I paid 6800 plus tax. It's the lower end commercial unit but does everything I need and then some. Mine has the 61" welded deck and the 24 hp Kawasaki. It will cut grass much faster than I feel comfortable cutting. I got mine at The Amite county coop in Liberty Ms.

I have the exact mower you are looking at. Gravely is a good mower and I like mine. Can cut my few acres in about an hour. It's way more than I needed but I found a used deal I couldn't pass up. I have the Kawasaki motor and it's a beast.

what did you do with the mower with the blown motor? If you still have it are you interested in selling it?

I just bought a husqvarna semi-commercial mower
Check out SLE equipment online. Their package with weed eater and chainsaw was cheaper than the mower alone
I bought a 52 but they also have a 61
ETA: 4000 for the package I bought
Amazon has mower alone for 4800. The package is a steal

I've had a Scag with the Kawi engine since 2005ish, cutting 2.5 acres. Been nearly flawless, and recommend to everyone that asks.

Bought a Bad Dog Alpha MP this weekend and do not regret it. I have a little over 3 acres, looks great and did not take long at all. For the price this is an awesome mower.
