former Rhodes scholar as well. that dude's destined to do great, great things in medicine.

quote:

On Friday, Rolle, a former Florida State defensive star and fourth-year medical student, announced he matched with Massachusetts General Hospital and will head to Harvard’s neurosurgery residency program in Boston.

Nice, I almost forgot about this guy.

Isn't the system rigged against black people though?

He barely beat my crowning achievement of walking through Stanford's campus that one time.

Feel good for that guy. Great accomplishment and I wish him well.

Gotta love stories like this. Good luck to him.

I'm assuming he is related to Antoine Rolle?

I wondered what happened to him.

I remember that he almost had to miss a game because it conflicted with his Rhodes Scholarship interview.

The NCAA had to give "special dispensation" to allow an FSU booster to pick Rolle up from his interview and fly him in his private plane to the game.

I remember seeing an interview with him when he was in college. Really glad he followed through with his dreams. I hope he can be an inspiration to a lot of young people as well as bringing health and comfort to the patients he serves.

I specifically remember Mayock wondering and negatively concerned at Rolles's combine. Mayock pulled the whole "how much does this guy truly love football" line because the kid took a fricking Rhodes scholarship!

At that moment, I never respected Mayock again. The NFL should've never been more proud to have that kind of kid and all the "football guys" were concerned about was that he wanted to be a fricking Neurosurgeon in the future.

#1 ranked athlete in CFB recruiting; Rhodes Scholar and now Doctor...dude hit the DNA lottery.

I remember when Robert Smith (pre-med) complained to the administration at Ohio State that his coaches were telling him to focus more on football and less on classes...telling him "you're not here to go to class, you're here to win football games." (paraphrase)

Gary Fencik for the Bears too...Yale and Northwestern...awesome athlete.
