The Grove is where the world elite go to congregate, didn't you know?

For us they dropped towels off once and that was it.

You can pay to have housekeeping daily. I think its $30-$40 per day for a full clean and $15-$20 for towels and trash.

Not that expensive when you consider the full coast of a Disney trip in a deluxe resort.

Why do people act like Disney and world travel are mutually exclusive?

It happens in every Disney thread. It makes it easy to find the people that either never go on vacation or they only go to Destin every year and dream of the day they can maybe save up to go to Jamaica.

Considered it in the past. Just didn't make financial sense.

Wife and I strongly considered it a couple years ago and came to the same conclusion. And we were trying to find excuses to make it work, but it's just not a smart long-term investment for most people, including us.

It's not an investment. It's a luxury. So if you are looking for an investment dvc isn't it. But I stay in some sick hotel rooms for pennies. I may add on because of this thread

To be fair, if someone is going to Disney World two or three times a year, do you really think they are also taking other big vacations? More power to them if they are, but if in fact they are, they have more money and free time than I do.

I don't think most people are doing Disney two or three times per year and traveling the world. However most people going that often have kids, which makes world travel difficult regardless of Disney obsession or not.

My wife and I go every so often though (we don't have kids), and still do other stuff. For adults Disney is actually a pretty cheap option if you do it right.

It really was a good deal for the people that bought in back when points were under $30 and they're locked in for another 20-30 years. Today it would cost you a shite-load up front plus a little over $1K a year in dues. If you go once or more a year it would eventually be worth it in about 30 years. You have to have about $30k of frick you money to get in on the nicer resorts for an average family vacation. I just messed around with the vacation club website and to get in on the Polynesian bungalows or the new Wilderness Lodge villas you have to drop $39K plus about $1600 a year for dues.

That's why renting points is a pretty good deal at the moment. A lot of people want to dump part of that cost and you can pick up some nice deals.

Yep. That's what we've done the past 2 trips and it's been awesome to have the 2 bedroom villas when you have 2 kids and a grandparent.

Parks are too crowded anyway, travel abroad with your youngin's like that moron suggested. They'd LOVE the Mayan ruins or seeing a tower. Its not like there stuff to do at Disney for kids anyway.

I have 325 points at Bay Lake and I am not of fan of DVC. You need to plan well in advance to get anything nice during the normal or busy season and for some reason we are not planners.
Easter is coming up and about two weeks before someone will say let's go on vacation.
I still have about 112 points form last use year that expire in April that I forgot to bank.

If you're like my friend who married into a family that are Disney cult members and take 4-5 trips per year down there, then it probably makes sense.

We bought my 7 year old a Pascal plush (chameleon from Tangled) which she brought with her everywhere. The second to last day she left it on the beach at the Polynesian never to be seen again. She was very upset about losing it. So as we were leaving to come back home we were picking out souvenirs at one of the stores and my daughter relayed this story to one of the cast members. The older lady discreetly took one off the shelf, removed the tag, and said "You mean this guy? He's been waiting for you here a few days." and gave it to her. Sure it's no Eiffel Tower but still magical to them.

That's what it's all about right there

200 points since 2006. Never buy from Disney. Picked up a resale from GMAC from a divorcing couple.

We love it. We would never pay the cash to stay at the higher end vilas that we now stay at annually (Grand Floridian, Board Walk etc..) with DVC.
