no but if we want to get a proven coach it's gonna take some serious cash.

Shoot for Crean and Brey, fall back on Collins and Forbes.

All Martin has proved is that he's an average coach, which is exactly what Missouri basketball is and always has been.

If Cal is open I wonder if Musselman would be in play there. The coaching carousel spins.

Mizzou sure seems to be active with this and we haven't heard much at all from LSU.

That's only because Cal already got their asses knocked out of the NIT, so Mizzou could lock down Martin now.

The expectation (or hope) is that our guy is still coaching, judging from Alleva's press conference.

Alleva, with Alexander to back him, will go as cheap and easy as possible.

Cuonzo is a horribly average coach. I thought Cal saved Tennessee from having to fire him eventually. He had a fluke Sweet 16 run, but that's all he's ever done.

He has 2 NCAA bids as a head coach. Johnny Jones has 3.

If Missouri is offering 3.5M to Martin, Alleva has some competition for worst SEC AD.

Oh man I hope Alleva doesn't pull a stunt like this.

Mizzou is ahead of the game for sure

For Cuonzo Martin? Who cares? He wasn't on LSU's radar and I doubt LSU is on his. His angle, as a native of East St. Louis, is to the Mizzou and/or Illinois jobs. LSU doesn't need to rush anything just because Mizzou and/or Illinois might be looking to hire Martin.

We just need to offer one of the Tennessee guys now, before they go on cinderella runs in the NCAA - Specifically:

Kermit Davis at Middle Tennessee, they'll beat Minnesota

Who is LSU rushing to beat to get Kermit Davis? He's been at MTSU for 15 years. Obviously he's not really in all that high of demand. Plus, he had a bigger victory in last season's tournament than Minnesota would be in this year's tournament. Finally, I seriously doubt he is a target of Mizzou, Illinois, and/or NC State (the other power conf. programs currently looking for a coach). No need to rush anything to get Davis. He'll be there if/when LSU wants him

quote:

Steve Forbes at Eastern Tennessee,

He's a different story. I think Forbes is very underrated. He's an outstanding recruiter and his teams get after it. It would behoove LSU to have him on their short list if they miss out on some larger names.

Still, it's all relative to market demand. If you think Forbes may be a serious candidate for one of the other big jobs out there then you move quickly if he's your guy. If not, you have some time to let the process play out.

Evidently it's a done deal.

I would laugh at Mizzou for that hire, but I'm not going to throw stones with Alleva yet to take his turn at bat with his helmet turned backwards

ESPN reporting it's a 7 year deal worth a "little more than" $21M.

Insanity. They could've done much better. I think the Missouri job is a good one.

Musselman has spent some time in the bay area and seems like a good fit there.

Cuonzo for 3.5?

I would not be surprised if Joe made an offer to Obama . He is desperate for anyone not to take a salary... My intuition is that we will get a coach that is not on the radar maybe an NBA assistant.

If a coach isn't in the ncaa tournament this year, LSU should not even consider him.
