Flooding never occurred before the recent climate cycle?
Well, someone lied to the Egyptians about living along the Nile then
I guess they were in da'Nile (literally)

This dickhead says he can't walk in his yard in NW La because it is so wet and I mowed a dry yard yesterday.
I'm a huge weather nerd.
I don't normally show that here. I do that on the OT during weather events.
This lunatic that keeps raving about excessive rain and floods in NWLa needs medication.

I wonder if in 1927 they blamed the Great Mississippi River flood on Climate change?

Rivers are supposed to flood. That's how the nutrient-rich soil gets deposited.

Don't worry, you'll get the last laugh when you're safely sailing away in your ark.

Straight from the Times article he refrenced but didn't link

Hysteria journalism from the Times. On the anniversary of last year's flood, they put out a story to say it'll happen again...someday. Well no shite. Rivers flood.

Gary Hanson, a hydrologist and member of the Red River Watershed Institute at LSU Shreveport, said while it's unlikely the river will overrun its banks this year, another flood is imminent. "We're in a bit of a drought," he said about this year. While there likely won't be a flood like the previous years soon, Hanson said if these problems go unchecked another flood event in Shreveport-Bossier City is inevitable.

While sad, this is the wrong board to post this on. They deny climate change.
You are correct Climate change has been the #1 contributor to the Red River flooding since the 1776, carbon emissions contributed to the 1800 Great Log Raft flood, 1849 global warming caused its first great flood on the Red River followed up by the 1849, 1892, 1945, and 1957 great floods.
If that damn levee hadn't toppled on Lake Texoma in 1990 then the rapid rate of successive flood events would be minimized but alas carbon emissions due to a lack of readily available carbon emission tax credits has led to a major greenhouse effect over the Red River Valley and now the flooding won't stop.
Thanks for the "they deny climate change" part of your sentence because it brings reality back to the board.

To be fair, that flood would have happened a dozen times or more since had they not built the new levee. Imagine the 2011 where it almost topped the current levee had the 1927 levee been all we had. Good god the entire delta regions would have been under 10 feet of water

No question that climate changes. However, the theory that Humankind is causing climate change is a theory that has never been proven using scientific methods.

The Shreveport Times is an awful newspaper and should be ignored.

Do what?
Below normal rainfall? Check
Drought spreading? Check
No flooding along Red River? Check
However, even with that, I wouldn't be surprised to see April turn much wetter for portions of the area.

What problem is he referring to, silt build up in the channel?

Listen up braws! Red River is getting higher. All the backwaters are silting up. So the water has no place to go but up.

No one is denying climate change. The bone of contention is what is causing it.

Northern Louisiana is about to get--right after having record rainfall from months of November to this very day--more freaking rain. Then, we have rain later today. This weekend, and ALL of the week after that. WTF is going on with our weather? My father has lived here since the 1940's and ...
He posted this in another thread. Dude is a quack.

Yep, that damn climate change is causing new development to funnel more drainage to the water ways quicker. End new construction!!
