I still don't believe that the meter is 1 mile from the camp.
ETA: especially with transformers in between the meter and the camp

It is. I looked up the Entergy map while trying to find the number for the service department. It shows the energized line where it crosses bayou lafourche and ends at the meter. A mile from my camp. Which sucks. Most of the stuff I read online for pole and line installs to rural cabins (Idaho and Maine mostly) was 5.00 dollars a foot and that was over land. So my run would be 25000 for all new. I'm hoping refurbishing the existing line will be less.

Solar is also out at a setup capable of running Ac etc. is around 40k

That $40/ft is sounding more and more reasonable. There are HUGE permit fees taht come with crossing public waters.

A marsh camp with central air is about as baller as a baw can get.

For the money quoted on here and all the other variables have you considered buying a few acres a service pole and moving the camp?

You should run the line if it's at all possible. Maintenance plus the generator getting stolen is gonna get old quickly.

I got family that runs their camp off a 15 when needed. Many times people trying to break in and steal it. A 30 running full will burn about 3 gal per hour.

Good friend of mine has a 65kw back up generator on his house.

Gas stove top, electric oven, gas water heater, gas heater. But it's a 12k sq ft house with 5 or 6 A/C units.

I'm looking at installing a back up on my house and if I remember right it was suggested a 45kw for my house. I have 3 a/c units.

I didn't bother to read all the replies -- but 30 KW is waaaay more than you'll need for a 2400 sq. ft. camp.

I have a Kohler 20 KW at my home. My son has an identical unit at is home. I also have a 35 KW Kohler at my office.

Not necessarily recommending a Kohler -- all three units have periodically needed work on the transfer switch boards or the generator components.

My point is that 30 KW is overkill for your needs. I have three A/C units at my house (a 4 ton, and two 2 units). As long as all three don't start at the same time (our A/C contractor took care of that), we run everything in the house (4200 sq.ft.) just fine. During Hurricane Gustav we ran on generator power for 9 days - incl. washer, dryer, ovens, microwave, TV's, computers, etc.

My son's house is 2100 sq. ft. -- his generator seems to idle (i.e. uses far less gas than my home unit since his house is smaller)

The generator at my office runs three central A/C zones in a 6000 sq. ft. building along with lights, 15 computers, electric water heaters, etc. We went with overkill on the size, so we don't worry if all three A/C units start at the same time.

As an update I can tell everyone that Entergy is not the group to call to figure this out. The "woman" in New Orleans at the call center could not have been less helpful. She couldn't even wrap her mind around the fact that there was no address.

Wait a minute. Your camp is one of those your randomly boat up to in the middle of the marsh?

And you got central a/c in that bad boy at 2600 sq/ft?

Baw I know you got another 25k to fix the line laying around

So for a marsh camp. Convert stove and water heater to propane. 12v for the water pump. Then trash the central and run 1 big window units and smaller for the bed rooms.

Then buy a 8kw inverter generator.

You can buy all that cheaper than a big generator or fixing the line.
