Minus the crime. Sad to see so many people out of work, pay cut, etc. Even not being in the oilfield, my livelihood has taken a beating.

The area doesn't lend itself to being good for other industries, so I guess we'll live and die by oil. You know it's bad when ECO is laying people off steadily

Where do you live? I don't know any able bodied person that is unemployed who I associate with. There was a thread on here last night about all these operator jobs people are getting.

EXXON just announced 20 billion in plans for the gulf coast. Oil prices are cyclical. It isn't the first down turn and it won't be the last

Serious question, have you ever even been to Detroit? Or are you just pulling comparisons based on ignorance?

The boat companies are all in a massive world of hurt. If the offshore oil industry was an organism, the OSV companies would be the anus.

GLF, TDW, HOS, Harvey, Chouest are all in a massive world of hurt right now. Take a drive around Houma and Amelia and look at the massive amounts of stacked boats, many brand new.

Do any oilfield workers save any money ?

I was layed off for 8 months when the financial crisis hit in 2008 but survived. I drew unemployment and took a shite job for a while.

Most O&G guys I know love to brag about those 8-10K checks but the up and down would drive me nuts. This drop killed one of my Baws, ole boy had a heart attack and killed over. Sad but true.
