Detroit? Probably not, but you wouldn't have much of a problem in El Paso.

EXXON just announced 20 billion in plans for the gulf coast. Oil prices are cyclical. It isn't the first down turn and it won't be the last

There is a lot of construction going on in LP and AP still, i'm sure any deckhand won't have trouble laying tile floor or installing sheetrock. They just have to move out their comfort zone and do what is best for their family.

It's going take a long time for these boat companies to bounce back. It's going to be bad when it does because there's not going to be anyone here to hire.

These guys are running out of cash and can't afford to putt their boats to work and wait 90 days to get paid. It's a really bad situation and the banks are going to take the worst brunt of it all because they're going to end up with a bunch of boats they can't sell. It's already happening.

Works for some folks, but when you're a boat captain who makes 200k a year, you probably have the house, bills, etc of someone who makes 200k a year.

Which are going to people who have transferable skills or experience. An e-line operator is gonna have a tough time breaking into the plants.

Not to mention the people in the hardest hit areas can't just drive 2 hours to work for $15

Serious question, have you ever even been to Detroit? Or are you just pulling comparisons based on ignorance?

Good point, I guess I'm thinking more of deckhands and what not...Yea I never really think about all the small businesses taking the biggest hit.

Did the main industry in Detroit downsizing or moving not cause a lot of the struggles Detroit has now?

The downtown area of Detroit has undergone a facelift and right next to the stadiums is actually quite nice.

A poster in the operator thread last night said he had off shore exp. and a college degree but was having trouble finding a plant job. He thought he may be over qualified or the employer would not want to take a risk training a guy who may jump ship once the o&g picks up.

I'm sure this is the same for those small business guys working in o&g.
