How did your dogs die?

With my most recent dog who passed (female basset hound), we put her down to end the last couple of months of progressive suffering. She was towards end of life expectancy but a hard decision to make and hopefully we didn't wait too long.
The next recent was a beagle/terrier female mix that had a growth rupture and needed to be put down (also at end of life expectancy).
My black lab male mix was my last outdoor dog, back when it was socially acceptable in south to have outside dogs. I moved away for college when he was 6 and he lived to about 13. Lost a lot of weight and then collapsed in yard during day.
Male Boston Terrier also an outdoor dog that collapsed in yard in middle of his life expectancy.
My current dog is getting up in age and healthy at the moment. My primary reason for starting this topic is wondering if it's more common for dogs to be put down these days or to just die from natural causes. Also to consider the factors now of when 'it's time' without the emotional aspect of being in the moment. While every case it different, not sure which is considered generally more humane?

I had a husky that ate an entire wad of aluminum foil and it perforated his stomach

This should do a pretty good job of ruining people's day. I'll pass.

Beagle - pistol to the head
Dachshund - 12 gauge from about 5-10 yards away.
My old man didn't believe in vets and both dogs lived long, happy lives. It was there time. Still, I've never had an animal myself because of it.
He told my mom and sister he buried them out in the woods when in reality he just shoveled them into a trash bag and threw them in a dumpster. My old man was as old school as they come.

How? Vet took care of it twice, two others woke up dead. Old age and just couldn't ever make the decision to carry them to the vet. I kept hanging on, so the dogs did.
Why? Both that I had put to sleep had immune mediated hemolytic anemia. Not a good way to die.

He would not eat and was only drinking water. Brought him to the vet numerous times and they finally found a tumor on his heart that was pushing his esophagus up. The next day i had an appointment to bring him to radiation. My wife woke up the next morning and he was laying on the floor unable to move. She woke me up and i went lay next to him, i knew it was the end. Seems the tumor has finally burst and it was to late. After a few minutes of me petting him and talking to him, he closed his eyes and was gone. I always look at it like he did his best to wait for me to wake up to say goodbye before passing on.

Aussie diagnosed with Lymphoma. Would have survived with treatments several years if had been type B or T. Test came back as null cell with a life expectancy of 30 days sans treatment and 6 months with. I was not ready for to say goodbye so we did treatment and she lived 9 months till I put her down. Never felt bad or missed a meal till the day she did not want to go for a walk and we said enough. Don't recommend treatment for anyone else but it gave me more time with her and she was great till the end.

My last dog was shot by a neighbor but I could never prove it. He had shot the dog previously which the dog survived but lost a leg. My dog had a bad habit of running the man's cattle.
Current dog will probably have to be put down before his life expectancy due to a prior accident that caused a spinal injury.
Its all about quality of life I'd say. At some point if your dog is obviously suffering and not getting better you have to be open to talking to a vet

Old age, had her put down. We actually were too cowardly and waited too long to finally bring her. I feel guilty about that.

He was defending us from a wolf that bit him and gave him rabies. I was only 12 years old but had to shoot him.
