The Wall - One of the dumbest things ever

I mean Pink Floyd did a pretty good job with their wall. And yeah we need to keep Islamic Terrorist out... but spending lots of money on this thing is all wrong.
The problem is not making a big enough wall, or tall enough, or by going long enough. This is like going after the wagging tail of a rabid dawg or chasing hens around the barnyard.
Maybe it's just me - but much better to chase the money trail, it's much better to go after their employers. The money doesn't need to be only us spending US dollars. Better to mega-fine the guys hiring workers without visas. Fine the American Guy 50 grand (ok 100) for each violation and double-it for every subsequent occurrence... and keep on until it really hurts... You'll soon get his attention. Fifty, a hundred, two hundred thousand and the economics of the situation will begin to take effect. They come here for the money; same as most vote in elections (*the bottom line) and why we get going everyday. And without finding jobs they'll have far fewer reasons to be here.
With 8 million illegals in the work force it could garner big bucks that could help tackle/enforce/be-put-toward (solving) the problem... instead of throwing an untold-gazillion dollars into yet another wall. A wall won't deter a terrorist with enough time, effort, and militia type backing and it hasn't stopped South Americans.
De-funding an illegal immigrant's reason to be here might just slow the flow of so many. And by fining the offenders it could make the task less economically demanding on the rest of us. The bad guys are not just the one's collecting the dough.

I say let the illegals sign up to build it, and have a lottery for some of them to get green cards.

Building a wall alone is ineffective. We need your idea but also an increased presence on the border.

It will do nothing to stop illegal aliens from coming across.
That's why Mexico's president isn't opposed to it. At all. Doesn't even care.
ETA: check the batteries in yalls sarcasm meter at least every 6 months.

I agree. A wall is better than the status quo, but it is an expensive repair of a symptom that does not cure the disease. We need to fix why they come here rather than simply making it more difficult.
Simply put, stop paying them, and they'll leave.
Stop giving them free healthcare, phones, education, housing, drivers licenses, etc; stop emplying them; stop paying them to have children; and start prosecuting them for using stolen social security numbers and they'll leave on their own economic initiative.

It's a simple minded, short sighted solution to a complex problem.

And yet, this was one of the key campaign promises made by the man elected US President. That must sting a little bit.

Obama likes the idea of a wall around his new place!

Trump wants a great wall. China has a great wall. How many Mexicans does China have?

Have you ever been to a border town like Nogales?
If you haven't, I suggest you do some research and report back. People are literally pouring over the border. Some of them are drug traffickers. Many have criminal histories. Human trafficking is flourishing as well. It is destroying our cities in the SW.
What is so hard about this?

Well when you look historically at walls throughout recorded history they've ALL been failures.
Walls of Jericho FAIL
Great Wall of China FAIL
Maginot Line FAIL
Atlantic Wall FAIL
Berlin Wall FAIL
Etc

I think in 20 years, this wall will be a punchline and no one will admit to having been in support of its construction.

Yes, let's ask Romania how ineffective their new wall is...
Also, it's not our money, it's Mexico's, so who cares?

Not nearly as dumb as yet another thread complaining about it.

Not having one is dumb.

I'm for it because I think it will look cool.
