When, if ever will we have spacecraft that can travel at light speed?

The new galaxy is only 230 trillion miles and 40 light years away!
It's hard to wrap your mind around that. 230,000,000,000,000 miles and 40 years at light speed.
When, if ever will we have spacecraft that can travel at light speed?
That's 186,282 miles per second. That's 670,615,200 mph. The moon is only 238,900 miles from Earth, so less than 2 seconds to reach the moon at that speed.
I just don't see it happening in my lifetime.

It won't happen ever. Scientists are hoping to one day travel at 10-11% of light speed.
And they didn't find a new galaxy they found a new solar system.

pretty sure we have a better chance of bending space than ever reaching light speed

Agreed. Earth will become overcrowded and fall to shite before it happens

NASA can see 7 planets 40 lights years away, but will not disclose any pictures from the backside of the our Moon.

Impossible. The only way would be some type of wormhole entanglement discovered thru quantum mechanics

Physics probably won't allow us. As we approach light speed our mass increases and we don't have the energy to continually propel our ever increasing mass. We will have to get creative without attaining light speed.

Actually we are approaching peak population and will eventually start to come down. Overpopulation Explained

Well, Chevrolet is working on a new engine for the Cruze.
It's a start.

It's very convenient that we have a moon.

This. Light speed is too slow for these insane distances.

Well it's physically impossible to travel at light speed, so there's that.

You are assuming that our current knowledge of physics is absolute. Although I agree that we can only go by what we have learned, to assume that we wont expand our understanding of reality is a bit naive.

Time slows down as you approach light speed. So if you left the earth at or near light speed and then tried to come back after a substantial amount of time, you would technically find yourself in the future.

Did someone see an explosion through a telescope?

I think 0.2ls would be a sweet spot in terms of being possible in the next 100 years. At even a fifth the speed of light and you are having to have serious relativistic thought go into your journey. Whatever propulsion method is used, assuming it has an optimum powerband, will still require half of the trip to accelerate before the second half being used to slow down.
Ok, so we could send a probe to the nearest star in a little over 20 years, what happens to a potential traveler experiencing the time dilation? Does less time pass if you are going that speed, in relation to an observer from Earth? As in, if a person could experience light speed travel, the trip would seen instantaneous, whereas one oberving this traveler would still experience the light years encurred?
