The Tax Man in New Orleans

Anybody in the NOLA area file their taxes with the Tax Man? Several people at work are raving about getting crazy refunds ($10,000 and up). They claim that he offers audit protection as well, but it just seems to good to be true.
ETA: I'm not filing my taxes with these people, just curious if anyone here uses them since I haven't heard of this place before.

I don't trust any of those places that do a lot of tax returns...

Sound like the same kind of people who borrow against their refund every year for new rims
ETA: and get $50 for a referral

If you actually had any money you would hire a CPA. Sorry you're poor.

Maybe there is something wrong with yalls payroll software.
If the majority of your income is W-2, there is simply no way you are getting refunds in that range unless something was done incredibly wrong in the past

Just so y'all know how this will end.
Eventually, a few people will get audited. They will have bogus refunds that will follow a pattern.
There's a preparer ID code on each return. IRS will then audit EVERY SINGLE RETURN prepared with that code. And then the fun begins!!!

Two of the people who used this place said they were audited last year and that everything checked out ok
this is a lie, unless you mean they were audited last year for a return from 3 years ago.

That sounds right, but had a friend use someone that sounds a lot like this fellow, and they had a question about their return so I looked at it, and where the "paid preparer " signs was blank, so I asked , didn't that guy do this for you, and it seems he talks his customers into him not signing it so he can keep his rates down

I bet he gave them a cash discount, too. The ones that pay through tracable means pay full price and the taxes are done legit. The ones that want to cheat are the type of people a scammer thrives on . The cheater's greed makes them blind to the fact that they're the ones getting scammed. Then, because they bought the excuse for no preparer's signature, they're left holding the bag with no defense or proof other than "I swear, that guy did it!" when the IRS starts asking some really difficult questions that may define their living situation and ability to see first run movies for the next 3-5 years.
The questions asked when the first one gets rung up by the IRS also tips the scammer off as to when it's time to dial back their little operation and start tidying up loose ends so that by the time enough people pop up to trigger the inevitable investigation, they appear clean.
fricking brilliant scam, that one.
