Most Savage Confirmation Hearing Ever?

I've only been involved in politics for 5-10 years so I'm curious as to which confirmation hearing was the nastiest, most savage, that you ever watched...

I wasn't aware at the time but read about Clarence Thomas
high-tech lynching

In my lifetime, it was Robert Bork. Hands down

Clarence Thomas was brutal, character assasination of the highest order.

It has quite a ways to go to outdo Clarence Thomas

Nothing will ever top the Robert Bork and Clarence Thomas hearings.
But I have high confidence that democrats are going to give them a good run for their money even if Gorsuch is squeaky clean.

Kennedy and Planned Parenthood colluded to publicly destroy Bork's reputation. The term "Borking" was born, and SC confirmation hearings have been a game of payback ever since.

Then Bork
Then Tower

I think the nomination goes through easily. But the vitriol directed toward the Dem defectors might just force some party flips. The true face of the left is on full display and it ain't pretty. Hatred on puppet strings.

Clarence Thomas.
Brutal, fraudulent character assassination of the highest order and from the highest ranks of the Democrat party.
Replacing Thurgood Marshall with a young black conservative was something that the Democrats were not going to allow under and they did whatever they could to try to stop it. Even if it meant using fraud, perjury, conspiracy, libel, and slander. All for the greater good, in their minds.

1. Bork - he was a nerdy, quirky guy who had no filter on his brain. What ever he was asked at his hearing he pontificated on. His manner made it seem like he was lecturing and talking down to the senators. He was an unabashed anti-abortionist in a its-a-matter-of-fact kind of way. Ted Kennedy gave a fear mongering speech depicting Bork as a reactionary.
2. Thomas - in the middle of his hearing a co-worker out of his past sort of magically appeared (as I remember it) and accused him of sexual harassment. That together with his very limited judicial experience and ultra conservative political leanings made it into a free-for-all. For a while it played like a poorly written soap opera.

The Dems are going to take all of their frustration about McConnell's unprecedented refusal to have a hearing on Obama's Garland nomination last year out on Gorsuch. He'll have to grin and bear it.

Went back and watched Thomas's remarks. You talk about nuking an entire senate body and dropping the mic, all the while Joe Biden sat there with that smug look on his face. That place was deathly quiet as he destroyed those Dems and called them out.

The crazy thing about Bork was that it went beyond Senate committee. Kennedy had commercials running against him the day Bork was announced.
The Bork hearings were truly the beginning of what we grieve now as modern politics.

You hit on it, but it really doesn't matter anymore. They had signs prepared tonight saying _____ is racist, and they had to write in Gorsuch's name because they didn't even know who it was yet.
It's the same thing, every fricking time. They need new material, yet they still wonder why they are losing so many elections

I dont agree. The media has always been used to effect by political participants. The "turning point" will always be that first election in which you became aware because of ones age or major change in the political landscape.
I remember Reagan being elected. The world was going to end, nuclear war, soviet red russisa yada yada yada....
Social media is the only new construct. Its pretty clear that it just lets you identify the idiots in your family and not so close circle of "friends" that feel the need to post non stop about their world views...
Thankfully this past election is a referendum on the ability of the American people to call "bull shite" and see through the media to make their own choices about what America means to them.
