Anyone Here Ever Heard About The Barklay 100 Super Marathon?

I grew up about an hour from where they run it every year and have never heard about it.
Apparently only 14 people have finished the race in the almost 30 years it has been in existence
This is a cool video if you have a few minutes.....

There is a Netflix documentary on it that is really good.

it's actually on my bucket list for 2018 or 2019.
I'm currently on the waiting list for this years Barkly Fall Classic (50k instead of 100 miler), but not expecting to get in.

How long to they give you to finish it?

It and Nolan's 14 are two of the most epic accomplishments in American endurance sports.

The path is always different and consists of 5 20ish mile loops over 36 hours, correct.
Iirc, most people consider it accomplished if they complete 1 lap.
Part of the path brings you through a storm drain under an old abandoned prison. At least I think it was abandoned.

3 days I think, but you have to do some tracking and pathfinding. The trail isn't marked in the conventional way.

You have to rip a page out of book to prove you've been to a checkpoint. The dude that started it, sits at the gate and drags cigs the entire time.

Yeah, it was the prison that housed James Earl Ray. I'm pretty sure his escape in 1977 is what inspired the creation of the race

Yes, it's "Barkley" and runners get 60 hrs and it is approximately 100 miles. The course changes every year, the date changes, and the start time changes. It is hard to get into but used to be truly an "underground" race. You had to find a certain listserv and then figure out how to apply. It is probably harder to get into now due to the increase in popularity but it is at least easier to apply.

This race is legit. They call like an 80 mile run "a fun run" lmao. Crazy as hell but I would try it.

After you see the documentary you will like it even more. Watched it late at night when I was bored and now I have seen it around 5 times. Reminds me of a Fistful of Quarters.

What I understand is a lot of the course isnt even trail. Its just brushy, rocky crap......and you run at night too and have to scramble up and down rocky hillsides.

Became slightly obsessed with Barkley after watching the documentary. Followed last year live and excited to follow this year as well. Have read a ton of the race logs and accounts and shite and just can't get enough.
