hat exactly were people expecting this year? I understand the frustration with Jones and maybe he deserves to be fired after the season is over, but what good is done by firing him right now? It's not like LSU is a destination job like in football. And we all saw what that got us by firing Miles four games in. We just moved someone on staff up. We went after Herman and Fisher for a week and a half then just went with O. And I like O, but that process was the shittiest process ever (at least it appears so from the outside). Why wouldn't you expect more of the same? Just let the season play out.

I agree, it's counterproductive to let Alleva make anymore coaching hires so it's pointless to fire a coach while Alleva is still here.

As for what people are expecting, even though LSU is not a basketball school, being semi-competitive in a bad basketball conference is not too much to ask. Any coach who can't at least do that should be gone.

Jones is pathetic and I would take Brady over him all day. At least Brady chewed out his players when they sucked.

At least Brady had solid defense and an offensive scheme that wasn't isolation street ball.

I've posted the same thing about winning percentage but it has gone beyond that now. There is more than won/lost in having a program you can be proud of. We have gotten blown out of more games where the team just quit than any other time in LSU basketball history. We have seen CJJ's teams repeatedly play down to the level of competition, which resulted in some defeats that should never have happened. When it has come down to needing a good win on the road his teams don't produce. Also the same is true when needing a crucial game at the end of a season to get into the tournament.

I want a team with a killer instinct that will blow out lesser opponents and at least scare the hell out of the big boys with how hard we play and compete. We will never get that with CJJ.

I recall Brady having decent defenses but the offense was rag tag clueless like JJ's.

This is exactly what Dale Brown's teams were known for. People have terrible memory or they are too young to know. I don't want JJ as our coach and I want a better program or at least teams that compete hard. But playing down is an LSU basketball trait that's been around forever.

I'll bet that right now Joe Alleva is feverishly looking for an up and coming young coach!

Useless stat is useless. It was the same with Les. Winning percentage doesn't tell the whole story. Jones is a terrible coach who if he had an ounce of coaching ability would have a much higher winning percentage

Until this season, Jones never had a losing record in the SEC. That is absolutely commendable considering the guy who preceded him went 2-14, 3-13, 7-9, in SEC play before Jones got the job. There's no doubt he was an improvement from the Johnson era. Hell, Brady was 5-11 and 1-6 in SEC play in the 1.5 years after the Final Four.

As much as I've criticized him, you have to give credit where credit is due, he improved LSU basketball in his first four years. His downfall is that he absolutely wasted the great talent he convinced to come here. He underachieved significantly in years 2,3,4. Those teams had several All-Conf. players. There's no way there should have only been one NCAAT appearance in those three years.

What Jones has proved is that LSU can get good talent. Now they just need the guy who can consistent reel in good players AND develop/utilize them when they are here.

We hired a middling coach from a bad conference and we're getting what we paid for. His love for LSU apparently couldn't overcome his complete lacking in basically everything else.
agree 100%. You get what you pay for. Until we are willing to go all in and pay a ball coach the big money we will never be a consistently solid team

Keep Johnny around through this season. I want to watch him crash this program down in flames so no one can doubt what a frick up if a coach Joe Alleva hired. Who cares any more? Joe doesn't care about building a basketball program that we can all be proud of. No one is going to offer a decent upcoming basketball coach a competitive salary in line with other blue blood programs. People say we are a football school so we can't have a respectable coach and program where basketball is concerned. Butler did it. Florida did it. Recruits go to Duke and North Carolina because of the coaches. Hire a goddamn coach at LSU and the fans will return. Damn..stop talking about Dale fricking Brown. fricking 30-35 years ago. Put the money up and stop hiring lame coaches. Get serious or shut down the program !

All of this.

Bravo sir. That's the kinda post that's worth a beer.

Go look at the non-conference schedules, opponents records and then come back and report to us.

Let me clarify. I admire Coach Dale Brown. I loved him when I was a young teenager and even today. I would help him find Bigfoot if he asked me too. I have respect for the coach but he and mr. Temple wanted Johnny Jones to have the job at LSU. Now it's time to move away from the politics. I cannot imagine that Joe Alleva is friends with coach K at duke, and that the coach did not offer any potential candidates for the LSU hire. I'm sure coach K could recommend some upcoming talent for coaches. Maybe no one likes Joe Alleva any more.

I will never bash or insult an LSU player. The players take instruction from the coaches and the players never recruit themselves. The players go to school and work hard in practice. I thank the players who are on this years team.

Duke was well established as a top tier basketball program before Alleva. LSU was well established as a top tier football program before Alleva was hired.

He's road the coat tails of successful coaches.
