Per the Washington Post

"The U.S. Army general who heads the D.C. National Guard and is an integral part of overseeing the inauguration said Friday he has been ordered removed from command effective Jan. 20, 12:01 p.m., just as Donald Trump is sworn in as president..."

Does anyone know what the reason(s) behind this might be? Can anyone with current or former military experience shed any light?

The only given is that the chain of command still leads to the Obama White House until DJT takes the Oath...

This is very strange. I also don't think Trump can order this.

Read the article:
quote:

Schwartz, who was appointed to head the guard by President George W. Bush in 2008, maintained the position through President Obama’s two terms. He said his orders came from the Pentagon but that he doesn’t know who made the decision. It is unclear whether he is part of a larger class of federal workers who have been asked to leave their jobs as a new president takes office.

This has Obama's finger prints...

Sounds like Obama creating a problem for trump to have to deal with. Make him find someone else quickly. I guess trump could issue an order preemptively reappointing him at 12:01 and let that be that.

I wonder if this has anything to do with the DC mayor's recent statement on remaining a sanctuary city.

I'm a 29 year veteran of America's armed forces, mostly in the reserve component (USAR and LAARNG) - and I'm still curious as to why the District of Columbia even has a national guard.

If I had to guess, I suspect that he's been a part of all the preparation in the lead up to the inauguration and Trump or Trump's people have been less than impressed.

Nat Guard units typically report to the governor but D.C. ain't got no governor.

It may not really be a thing.
