changes and timing of the coaching staff.

I would say 10-13 very good
13-15 good
7-10 excellent.

We have to accept some attrition with the change.

Added with edit:

Keep in mind: Saban's first year at LSU Rank 13, Saban's first year at Bama, Rank 12, Miles first year LSU rank 13, Harbraugh first year at Mich, rank 32. So, first years are tough for new coaches - yes I know O was moved up, but still made many changes to coaches that were recruiting this class.

Good? Top ten. Great? Top 5. Anything below 10 would be a bit disappointing.

Dude, if this isn't a top 5 class when it's all said and done, it is a failure on O's part.

Nailing this class was part of the deal, and we held on to every commit except Guidry since Miles left.(Yeah we got him back. Good job.)

This isn't a normal coaching change. This was a hire from within, and i'm not going to move the goal posts closer for O.

Recruiting is supposed to be his specialty.

Wisconsin is always like 30 or so in Recruiting and are always in the Top 25 in the Polls.

While I understand your point about Wisconsin, let's also remember Wisconsin plays in a division with Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota, Northwestern, Purdue, and Illinois.

Nebraska is the only team on that list that could/should be competing on the field with Wisconsin consistently, and even they have sucked until recently.

It's a lot easier to do well overall in the Big10 West than the SEC West.

2-4 excellent
5-6 Expectations
6-10 Subpar
Below 10 and someone isn't doing their job. Remember, O took over the #2/3 class in the country.

I look more at filling needs. LSU is always going to get great db's, RB's, WR's, and DLineman.

With the way Louisiana produces QB's, LB's, and Olineman prospects we cannot afford to lose those when the state develops them and especially when they are a position of need.

Losing the two highly rated LB's from Baton Rouge hurts bad. Especially losing them to Bama. How many plays did Tim Williams make this season? How vital was Cam Robinson to Bama over the last 3 seasons? Miles didn't recruit Williams heavy (despite being one of the highest rated players in LA) and this past season we were skinny at OLB. Now he's a 1st Rd pick and all sec player. Miles lost out on Cam and we didn't have a real left tackle this season. The guy is an all American. Those two are game changing impact players. You cannot afford to lost them. The same can be said of Landon Collins (All American) and Eddie Lacy (All Sec). Those are guys that changed the path of the season for bama.

LSU has to figure a way to block bama out of Louisiana. Us losing highly rated Louisiana boys to them must be the exception not the rule (as it is now). And is must not be acceptable. This staff has to do whatever it takes to get those players to stay in state or commit to schools out of conference.

I think anything outside of the Top 10 is disappointing.
2016: 6
2015: 6
2014: 2
2013: 6
2012: 14

So it's been a while since we've been outside the Top 10. That being said, I think Aranda will target some kids that may be under the radar and I trust his ability to identify players with potential. I also hope we do a better job of targeting by need as well.

Wisconsin didn't have Miles and Cam. There is a reason Miles is still unemployed and top 5 talent and consistent multi loss years is why.

Yea, I remember when we lost both Cam and Tim Will. No excuse for either.

Same with Allen and Moses. No excuse to lose elite in-state players. How do you leave your home state where you can play right away and go sit the bench at a rival? I hang on to chance the O flips one of them on signing day.

For nay-sayers: no matter how you try to 'rain on it' CEO and his staff have done a superb job IRT this rec class. I can't remember a program in recent years with the changes LSU went through, and with those changes the very SMALL number of recruiting defections/decommits.

They have done an admirable job, which still has us looking at potentially a top 3-5 class filling most if not ALL of our roster requirements (yes, I know we need another LB and OT, and a top RB). Let's see how we finish...and how we transition into the next cycle IRT strategy, targets, etc.

Right now we are at #6, with 6 commits left. I doubt we finish any lower than 4 or 5.

They also have years where they go 7-6, 8-6, etc.... we bitch about going 8-4 and fire coaches because of that.

It starts by beating Bama on the field. Getting rid of Les Miles was a step in the right direction. His stubborn style was never going to beat them again. Aranda's defense did enough to beat them this year. If Canada can improve the Offense in a significant way, things will be much different around here.

Well...#3 is the best possible at this point. Nobody is catching Ohio State or Bama this year. If LSU finishes with Akers, Wilson, D. Smith, Narcisse, Harris, and Mathis they will be around 297 or 298 points on 247...which will probably lock down #3. GA could finish at #3 with strong finish though.

Unless there is a lot of staff flux before signing day I think Top 5 is realistic.
