That only shows that Kiffin was likely the #1 target. It also shows that we were looking at and talking to other candidates, should our #1 target fall through, since an announcement the day after Kiffin is gone would be impossible otherwise.
So what is the issue with having a top target, looking at other options, and moving on them if #1 goes elsewhere?
Is the simple fact that LSU didn't get their first target the source of all the misery and perception that LSU is a dumpster fire? That seems...dramatic.

The drama comes from the perception that we were basically just waiting around for Kiffin to exhaust all HC options, and in the meantime, we were losing QB recruits because of no OC or QB coach
if we hire Canada or another promising OC, I'm perfectly happy with the OC search

If he wasn't, just about every media outlet had absolutely no clue. I mean, everyone would have to be completely fricking lost on this situation. And before you even say anything, no, this is not the same as polls. This was simple information about who we we wanted to hire as an offensive coordinator.

Not sure this is easily avoidable when you're targeting coaches that are likely HC targets at other schools. It's the nature of being at a school that goes after people with that kind of resume.
Recruits will have time to make their minds up once an OC is hired. Ultimately, it would be no different than hiring an OC immediately and recruits bolting due to the choice.

well....I don't think that is how if happened, I think O helped his friend by leaking the LSU interest for leverage and once Kiffin got a job, O went after his real targets...

That seems a bit far-fetched. I'm sure someone will run with that as being fact just because it was posted, though. 
If that's true, then we were always looking at others and were never "sitting around" waiting for Kiffin to exhaust all options. I'm not sure why interest from LSU to be our OC would entice a school like FAU to grab him anymore than him being OC at Bama.
