So they give credit to the best team in the country year in and year out...oh the humanity.

And what's your beef with Palmer? He's good too.

Verne Lundquist is the worst broadcaster I have ever listened to in my entire life of watching football.

He absolutely sucks at calling a game.

He makes Hawthorne sound like Marv Albert or Howard Cosell.

If you were listening to him on the radio or just listening to him and not watching the game, you would have no idea what was actually happening. He is terrible at describing the action. Many of his calls are descriptive as saying a players name and that's it:

"QB back to pass...incomplete."

"RB with the carry...he's down."

"QB with the throw...touchdown."

Not to mention that he often calls plays completely wrong, that is a given for every game he calls.

Not to mention that he often calls players by the wrong name.

He is slow in his speaking and boring as hell.

He's also biased and loves to suck Alabama off.

He's also fat as frick.

Bye Verne. Most wont miss you.

Verne one last time by AlaTigerHe is actually one of the worst ever. His love for Alabama coupled with his constant cluelessness about the game he is watching creates an epic conflagration of misery for all watching. He is so bad that even most Alabama fans do not like him.

Not true !! He is still treasured and adored by the entire Gump Nation , looked upon as a national shrine.

You coonsasses are so sensitive.
Verne does a great job, but you people are too provincial to realize it.

I've heard my Ole Miss, LSU, Alabama, and Auburn friends all talk about how bad Verne is.

No matter how much you'd like this to be an 'LSU fan' thing, it's not. Everyone hates his sorry arse.

You are so right....
Gary just can't control his excitement when he talks about Saban.... Even the way he says the word has an orgasmic quality to it.

Is Verne your daddy, baw?

Why so defensive?

I mean, he's just annoying as Hell and is very unpopular.

All homerism aside, I personally don't find him appealing in any way, shape or form no matter how many years he's been flapping his gums.

Period.

How is Verne a Bama homer? I've never heard a good reason.

He is upset when bama makes mistakes or something doesnt go their way.
His inflection when talking about bama is noticeable to everyone. If you need an example, go watch the 2011 Eric Reid int during the bama game.

I thought he was already gone. I feel like they've been saying goodbye to him and giving tributes for months. Not a fan.

Exactly. His "Oh no!!" when Reid made that great interception said it all. Verne IS a Bama homer, and I'm so glad that piece of sh*t is finally retiring.

Lol no, I just don't understand why it's the cool thing to do to hate on him so much. If you don't think he's any good, fine, but most of the hate seems to be based on the idea that he loves Alabama/hates LSU, which is absolutely retarded IMO.

I am a sports radio guy and do play-by-play for high school games and he's one of those guys that I've greatly admired growing up...so yeah, I defend him. To each their own, I just think the whole "Bama homer" thing is completely false and makes our fans look like whiny bitches.

My first reaction is that you need better friends.

But actually your friends don't like him because he isn't a homer. He gets excited about what is happening on the field regardless of which team that involves. All of them are emotionally involved in the outcome of the game and get upset when the announcers aren't as involved as they are.
For some people (a lot actually) think Verne calls a good game if you are an impartial watcher. Try to leave your partisanship for a minute, sit back and just watch the game.
