We Should Have Started Mettenberger in 2011

I refuse to believe Mettenberger wasn't as good as Jarrett Lee or Jordan Jefferson as a Sophomore.
If Jarrett Lee's 96 yard performance was good enough to beat Oregon, then throwing out an "inexperienced" Mett still would have been good enough to beat the Ducks.
I think by the 14th game, Mettenberger would have been on a roll, thus beating Bama in a close one, 17-15.
Quarterback play was the reason we lost to Bama in the BCSCG. Mett would have been the solution.

Mettenberger threw for 97 yards against A&M in 2012 and had a few other downright bad performances so what makes you think he would have been any better his first year?

I will say this, if Mettenberger had performed against Bama in 2011 the way he did in 2012, we would have won both games.

Always felt the same. We had to play safe offense and nurse Lee and Jefferson along anyway - could have worked just as well for Mett and we might have had a more dangerous passing attack toward the end of the year (not to mention preparing him for 2013). If they had beaten Alabama more convincingly in regular season then Alabama might not have gotten to #2 for the bowl game.
