I clicked on the article hoping that The media was spinning his words rather than Francis spinning words. I thought MAYBE he's calling out the media's new fake news agenda for being truly fake and suppressing the real truth - therefore a sin. I was Wrong.

This quote did it for me:
“I think the media have to be very clear, very transparent, and not fall into - no offence intended - the sickness of coprophilia (obsession with excrement), that is, always wanting to cover scandals, covering nasty things, even if they are true,” he said.

I'm a Catholic -and not a cafeteria one. So I know that I'm not supposed to speak negatively about the Pope, but I'm starting to think that Bergoglio is not the true Pope. I'm starting to believe that the one world order illuminati people forced Pope Benedict out. At first I thought it was conspiracy, but now, after that quote, I believe it. I am now convinced that Pope Benedict is still the true pope and Bergiglio is a puppet of the one world order.

They are all fake Christians so really, it doesn't mean anything to them.

There have been many popes. If you're a true believer you must know that some of them are in hell

I don't remember that being taught in my Catholic school, but I was a terrible student. Every leader, Pope included, needs to be challenged.

I'm Catholic also (not hugely devout), but I'm not a big fan of the current pope. He's a straight-up socialist. He needs to STFU about economic policies and stick to the religious stuff.

The Pope has different political views from mine. He isn't the real pope.

It would be far more valuable if the legit news warned us about the fake Pope.

As a Catholic you can say or think anything you want about the pope. I'm Catholic and not a big fan of our current one! As a Catholic you are not supposed to publicly argue against Church doctrine. You may privately disagree with it and argue it with your priest, bishop, cardinal, or pope.

Doctrine wise discouraging bearing false witness and spreading lies is sound.
None of that determines if an individual story is true to false!

The headline of the article:

quote:

Pope Warns Media Over ‘Sin’ Of Spreading Fake News

and the pope's comments are incongruous. The pope's comment are perfectly acceptable in the context of the commandment "Thou shall not lie."

The Huffington Post reporter is taking liberty with the pope's comments in the context of "fake news". "Fake news" is a brand new phenomenon in America. I would bet the pope has zero knowledge of "fake news" in America.

That is very dishonest, sinful and very fake newsish of the reporter.

I read the article. I don't see what's controversial about what he said. What I do think is terrible is the way HuffPo spun it.

HBO

quote:

The Young Pope
PREMIERES JANUARY 15 AT 9 PM

Watch trailer at link on HBO site...

quote:

From Paolo Sorrentino, director of the Academy Award®-winning film 'The Great Beauty,' 'The Young Pope' tells the controversial story of the beginning of Pius XIII's pontificate. Born Lenny Belardo, he is a complex and conflicted character, so conservative in his choices as to border on obscurantism, yet full of compassion towards the weak and poor. The first American pope, Pius XIII is a man of great power who is stubbornly resistant to the Vatican courtiers, unconcerned with the implications to his authority.

The ten-episode series stars two-time Academy Award® nominee Jude Law as Pius XIII, and Academy Award® winner Diane Keaton as Sister Mary, a nun from the U.S. now living in Vatican City.

Sorrentino, who also directed of the upcoming 'Youth,' says the series is about "the clear signs of God's existence. The clear signs of God's absence. How faith can be searched for and lost. The greatness of holiness, so great as to be unbearable when you are fighting temptations and when all you can do is to yield to them. The inner struggle between the huge responsibility of the Head of the Catholic Church and the miseries of the simple man that fate (or the Holy Spirit) chose as Pontiff. Finally, how to handle and manipulate power in a state whose dogma and moral imperative is the renunciation of power and selfless love towards one's neighbor."

The series is produced by Wildside, and co-produced by Haut et Court TV and Mediapro. Executive producers for Wildside are Lorenzo Mieli and Mario Gianani together with John Lyons. Executive producers for Haut et Court TV are Caroline Benjo, Carole Scotta and Simon Arnal. 'The Young Pope' is a co-production of HBO and Sky.

I don't get the outrage. He's saying that the media is obsessed with muddaking (which they are) and that they should cover more positive stories of human kindness. Many on this board have often complained about the dangers of "gotcha" journalism. That's what the pope is decrying. The media focuses on stories that divide us and pit people against each other because it's exciting and gets ratings. However, all it really does is foster hatred and strife where there need be none. I join the Pope in calling for transparency, accountability, and accuracy, and an end to sensationalism, hyper partisanship, and gotcha journalism in media.

My friend who is super tinfoil hat claims that the conspiracy world says that this pope is the black pope. He is like the pope of the hidden satanic side of the elites, while he is the pope of the catholics.

Why does this statement offend you? Do you not agree that the media focuses entirely too much on the sensational?

"Child gets bit on hand while playing with neighbors dog" vs. "BREAKING: Dog attacks child, possible pit bull!!!"

Stop the hypersensitivity, it helps no one.
