Going on a cruise with kids (12-13 yr old) and in laws. MIL cant walk very long distances or very fast.
Any suggestions for excursions from the port? Not going to do the cave tubing, zip line, or eco tours.
Is the water taxi from port reliable to Caye Caulker?
Any suggestions?

Belize is a shite hole and unless you plan on doing an excursion then don't bother getting off the ship. They tender you in and there is nothing to do but look at those shops that have the same exact thing you can buy in every port in the Caribbean, It might be risky for your MIL to even get on the tender boat. Most of the excursions are more physical in Belize and require a long bus ride then a hike to either ruins or tubing. The others are boat rides to go snorkeling or what not. Just stay on the boat and enjoy having less people on board. Or, leave your MIL on board and go do something the rest of you want to do.

Yes the water taxi is reliable but I would not take her to Caye Caulker. Yes the island is small but she would have to walk everywhere there. You could stay on the water taxi and go to San Pedro. There you could rent a golf cart and explore the island.

I like the Darknight cave tubing tour. It is a haul on a bus, but was a really enjoyable day. The MIL is a no go so she would have to stay on board...win win. Get her a gift card to the spa and enjoy life.

A few years ago I went on an NCL cruise that stopped in Belize City. The city itself is not a very nice place to visit. We took an excursion to the Mayan ruins of Alton Ha which was very interesting. This was about a 30 minute bus ride from the dock. Afterward we were dropped off at the Great House Hotel which has a very nice bar with a French Quarter style courtyard. We had a few drinks there then walked back to the ship. This is what I would recommend for Belize. Be careful. The area around the hotel and the dock seemed very safe to me but on another occasion a friend of mine got mugged there.

P.S. Alton Ha does involve some walking. The Great House Bar will be ok for kids because they have non-alcoholic drinks and it is part of a hotel.

What are you doing at the other stops?

BigBoBBs knows what he is talking about.
The zip lining, cave tubing, jungle drive is pretty dang cool. Probably the best of what the country has to offer outside of scuba diving/ snorkeling.
