I'm attending a wedding next year where the girl (mid 30's, no pics) is keeping her last name after she is married. Two questions:

1. Is this a thing now?
2. How much of a beta does the man have to be to even agree to this?

Gender equality bro. Get with the times. It's almost 2017.

It's just a name. After all, it's 2016.

are they in Arkansas?

if so the guy is probably marrying his sister so they already have the same last name.

It's preferable to the hyphenated surname.

Moreso than it used to be, but still not that common. Usually women who have established careers.

Why even give a shite if the kids take your name?

ETA: This came off wrong, I meant why care if the woman takes your name or not as long as the kids do. I just want my name carried on through my kids.

FTR, my wife took my name but I wouldn't really care if she didn't.

Deal breaker, but a chick like this would be exposed well before that came up

I wonder if her mother took her father's last name? For me, I'd have to pass on marrying someone like that. But I'm pretty traditional.

Who gets bothered by that? She probably did it for career reasons. I know several couples with that arrangement. It makes it awkward when the kids have the father's last name though

After going through divorce & changing everything back to my maiden name, I'm not super excited by the thought of changing everything again when I remarry. But I'm sure I will, since I have no real attachment to my maiden name.

Does he have a crappy last name? I'd keep mine if his sucked.

My wife would not take my last name. She didn't want to be called Mrs. Cover.

Honestly I am surprised there is not a trend toward the man taking the woman's last name.

My wife changed her last name but kept her maiden name in professional settings.

Probably both of their third marriages. Wedding will be ok, but call me for the divorce which will be much more fun!
