California is taking its fight against global warming to the farm.
The nation’s leading agricultural state is now targeting greenhouse gases produced by dairy cows and other livestock.
Despite strong opposition from farmers, Gov. Jerry Brown signed legislation in September that for the first time regulates heat-trapping gases from livestock operations and landfills.

In the nation’s largest milk-producing state, the new law aims to reduce methane emissions from dairies and livestock operations to 40 percent below 2013 levels by 2030, McCarthy said. State officials are developing the regulations, which take effect in 2024.

Lol silly California...
Don't get me wrong, climate change is definitely an issue that we need to address. But I don't think the cows are the low hanging fruit we should be going after

The agricultural parts should just secede from California and form their own state.

All the bullshite coming from California is a danger to humanity, not exactly sure how over regulating cattle will help though

Dairy farmers say the new regulations will drive up costs when they’re already struggling with five years of drought, low milk prices and rising labor costs. They’re also concerned about a newly signed law that will boost overtime pay for farmworkers.
“It just makes it more challenging. We’re continuing to lose dairies. Dairies are moving out of state to places where these costs don’t exist,” said Paul Sousa, director of environmental services for Western United Dairymen.
Socialists love producing scarcity.

Next up, a law to make bulls wear condoms.

This destroys small regional dairy farms and allows the big corporate dairies to drive out competition and raise prices.. they will offset costs with expensive equipment that traps the gas and turns into energy to run the farm.. good luck for the small farms in the upcoming dairy arms race..

By what method do they plan to capture the methane gas leaking from cows' asses?

This!
Let the looney coasters live however they want. Leave the ag to the rest of us. Eventually, California will kill off large scale agriculture in the state and we will al be fricked

South Park could easily make an episode about this

They use a biogas energy system that separates the methane and turns it into a useable energy source.. there are farms currently using the tech but it's expensive upfront

So if the cows move to AZ their farts will no longer heat up the atmosphere?
Damn I'm embarrassed of this state.

Why don't you volunteer to lose your job first?

First, they insisted on liberalizing themselves out of water. Now it's milk. Apparently, liberalism is not just a disease. It's a terminal one.

so if the world actually does start cooling (in the minds of liberals), are Californians going to start begging cows to fart more?

Forget greenhouse effect.
What about the fact that animal livestock is ecological disaster.
California is in massive drought from all reports for almost 3 decades...yet cattle and dairy cows are still being raised.
2,500 gallons of water are needed to produce 1 pound of beef.
1,000 gallons of water are required to produce 1 gallon of milk.
5% of water consumed in the US is by private homes. 55% of water consumed in the US is for animal agriculture.
Livestock covers 45% of the earth’s total land.
2-5 acres of land are used per cow.
Nearly half of the contiguous US is devoted to animal agriculture.
A farm with 2,500 dairy cows produces the same amount of waste as a city of 411,000 people.
The BLM has rounded up more than 50,000 wild horses and put them in holding pens - so ranchers can don't have to purchase land but can graze more cattle on public lands.

Run the small dairy farmer out of business then there is no need for those valuable California pastures. Build malls, homes and apartment complexes... sounds like a great idea....

Man made climate change is possibly the biggest bunch of bullshite ever perpetrated on the American people and now the weirdos in California want to go all in on cows to combat a made up issue. Fantastic!
