Necessity is the mother of invention. I say that mechanical innovation would have advanced sooner so that mass production of agriculture would have been possible much as it was made possible with human labor.
The money to be made from sugar, cotton, tobacco, etc. cultivation would have been a giant motivating factor.
I wish it had happened that way. The world would likely be a much better place. Slavery is as evil as it gets.

With or without slavery in the US, Africa would still largely be a shithole.
Also, without the option of selling their defeated enemies to white slavers, African tribes likely would have just killed all those they defeated, meaning none of the blacks in America would have ever been born.

He's sort of assuming the Northern colonies/states developed in a vacuum. And would have been unaffected by the absence of Southern slavery. I don't think you can do that.

the key is competition, not individual flashes. skim the top of the athletic gene pool, and you will still have the same level of competition.
your speed and skill level would diminish, but I don't think it would be noticable.
how many guys bagging groceries one week, rushing for 100 yards the next week, does it take to prove that there is plenty enough talent to let go of the spoiled prima donas at the top.

All of the economic assertions are silly.
They are all like saying "If Terry Bradshaw died when he was six, the Steelers would never have won the Super Bowl".
You can't find everything remotely linked to slavery and say, welp, that wouldn't have existed.
