LSU must follow the model set by Alabama, Ohio St., and Michigan

I never start posts, but guys, lets be real. Alabama, OSU, and Michigan returned to prominence, by going out and paying big bucks for the MOST qualified coaches they could find.
Bama snagged Saban, after messing around with former Bama grads who didnt work out.
OSU got a semi retired Urban.
Michigan went and got Harbaugh, also a known commodity as head coach, even though he didnt have a college ship like Saban and Meyer, he took the 49ers to the Super Bowl.
LSU needs to follow suit; learn from these programs, and not settle for a head coach. Jimbo would be a great fit in my humble opinion for these reasons. However, there are others out there who work as well. Lets just get somebody that we KNOW is a good coach, please.

I think that's been said...............10,000 times

Nah, we should promote our DL coach because he is good buddies with a good OC.

I think Danny O'Shea is our best choice right now to be honest.

Tom Coughlin probably ain't doing shite right now. He's like 70 but we could probably get like 3 years out of him.

Exactly. If you want to be at the top you have to have a coach that can get you there. Jimbo is that guy. Jimbo with LSUs talent, which I think can consistently be better than FSU's is going to be awesome.

Alabama made an offer to, then, West Virginia coach Rich Rodriguez before snagging Saban.
I doubt their 1st choice would have been as successful.

The question is are there any Harbs/Saban/Meyers out there? Jimbo would be a good choice, but I think he's in the next tier after these three.

Outside of the money, the 'models' those schools used to get those coaches couldn't have been more different from one another.

He may wind up being our coach, but I for one, cant see how you can put Fisher in the same conversation as Saban, Meyer and Harbaugh.

Getting those coaches were more a matter of luck/good timing vs. the schools being willing to pay a ton of money.
Shula had a great 2005 season. He tanked in 2006 and that just so happen to coincide with Nick Saban clearly having second thoughts about coaching in the NFL. If Bama is looking for a coach in 2005 or Shula doesn't have a bad 2006, Saban isn't there.
OSU had ZERO desire to get rid of Jim Tressel. He was just coming off a 12-1 season. If they weren't basically forced to fire him, he's STILL the coach at OSU. Unfortunately they were. However, fourtunately, a two-time national champ Ohio native was available at the same time OSU needed a coach.
Harbaugh had great success his first 3 years in the NFL. No one gets fired with the kind of record he had...unless you and management can't get along. His alma mater just happened to need a coach at the same time he needed a job.
Bama/OSU/Mich. did NOT pull a coach from a good situation like LSU is trying to do with Fisher (and even Herman). Those 3 jobs just happened to be open at the right time.
Maybe Pete Carroll is tired of Seattle. Maybe Chris Peterson would like to try Gumbo. Maybe this is the year that John Gruden wants to leave the MNF booth! But unless those things are true, there doesn't appear to be a sure fire HC NEEDING to leave his current gig to come to LSU.
I have no doubt that LSU will do whatever they can to attract the best coach possible. But if that guy says "no", there's really nothing LSU can do.

I know he's popular on here, but Herman is a much bigger risk than Jimbo. High risk, high reward, of course, but Jimbo is the better option IMO. Recruiting has not been an issue for LSU, defense has not been an issue for LSU. Our issues are on QB recruitment and development. Jimbo fixes that issue immediately.
Look at Strong at Texas, Kelly at ND -- both of those coaches were going scorched earth at their previous jobs and were the "it" coaches (Kelly more than Strong), but look at how that's panned out.

Just read my Sig line. I got it from a post by a Bama poster yesterday and that shoe fits!

Of course. That makes perfect sense. Will pass your thoughts along.

Agreed. I love how some of the O guys are so concerned with having to pay Jimbo or Herman big money, like it comes out of their christmas bonus.
Teams don't get better by going cheap. Just find the best you can, and pay the man.

LSU needs to force their target to say yes and accept nothing less than yes.
Just like Michigan did with Harbaugh.
