A group of Wisconsin Badgers student-athletes are upset with what they perceive as racial inequalities on campus. Members of the football team and the star forward from the basketball team are among those who shared a Twitter post detailing their frustration Monday evening.
The stance comes shortly after a fan wore a racially-charged Halloween costume — a Barack Obama mask with a noose around its neck — to Wisconsin’s home football game on Oct. 29.
Here’s the Twitter post, as shared by Badgers hoops star Nigel Hayes:
Just saw this also being picked up by Huffpo and some other sites. This could get interesting.

At least this election you will be able to wear a mask of the winner with a noose around your neck and it will be about a shitty president and not race.
Obligatory "Thanks Obama."
Obligatory "Thanks Obama."

WTF does this have to do with the school?

Wisconsin is liberal and PC as frick, so this is surprising.

gee, remember how midwesterners would always chide the south on being racist fricks?

Everything. It proves that the administration at Wisconsin is racist and that black people live in fear every. single. day.

Should we tell him?
That all student athletes of all colors get an advantage here
What a crying puss

Nigel Hayes is quite the drama queen lately. He's broke and now he's oppressed.

A big portion of what is wrong with this country is in the red paragraph
Holy shite
Holy shite

Holy whining in that picture.
And I don't doubt that it happens sometimes, but how in the shite have I never once in my life heard a person yell out to another person the n word out of hatred?

Does not make the act excusable, as it is still deeply-disturbing to me as a recent Wisconsin alumnus of mixed-racial descent, but just about every news source has: (1) incorrectly labeled these individuals as students, and (2) ignore that Hillary Clinton was also depicted on this costume. I have refrained from voicing my opinion on the matter, but I have seen some divide as to whether this was some "political wack-job" or a legitimate act of racism. No matter your stance, though, no good was going to come out of this costume. It stoked the fire of previous issues surrounding race at Wisconsin, particularly dating back to the spring.
I encountered instances of racism/discrimination during my time at UW-Madison. I do want to emphasize, however, that this is not specific to Wisconsin, and Nigel Hayes said as much. Just about every major college campus in the country undergoes divisive incidents relating to race. For me, the positive experiences have FAR outweighed the negative. I loved my time at Wisconsin.

Because you arent a third class citizen like a power 5 division 1 athlete that gets school paid for
Life is completely unfair for them

The part about balancing such a busy schedule seems purposefully misleading. Unless it is just an SEC rule, you have to average 12 hours a semester. So, these guys load up on summer and intercession classes. Then, in the fall, they have 6 hours. Also, in the evenings, they have a crew of tutors that help them. It is certainly manageable.
Also, so classmates assume you aren't a good student because you are an athlete? Well, people assumed I was shitty at basketball when I would try to play in pick up games at the Rec in college. Instead of crying about it, how about you take pride in proving these people wrong.

Nope, you have to be a full time student, 12 hours minimum.

Really? I could have sworn that I remember a player telling me that back in the late 2000s.
I found this on LSU sports. Maybe I'm just reading it wrong.
quote:
Effective August 1, 2003, for those first entering any collegiate institution full time on or
24 hours - A student-athlete must complete a minimum of 24 semester hours of academic
credit prior to the beginning of the second year of enrollment.
18 hours – A student-athlete must complete a minimum of 18 semester hours of academic
credit during each regular academic year.
Six-hour – A student-athlete must complete a minimum of six-semester hours of academic
credit in the previous full time regular academic term.
Also found this on NCAA.com
quote:
In Division I, student-athletes must complete 40 percent of the coursework required for a degree by the end of their second year. They must complete 60 percent by the end of their third year and 80 percent by the end of their fourth year. Student-athletes are allowed five years to graduate while receiving athletically related financial aid. All Division I student-athletes must earn at least six credit hours each term to be eligible for the following term and must meet minimum grade-point average requirements that are related to an institution’s own GPA standards for graduation.
