I just heard Archie use this phrase:

"They used to call me the gouache (sp?) kid. That's because I was the only gentile I guess in the whole garden district. Except for the sprinkling of daygos. Which they might as well be Jews anyhow."

There is no way that they would be allowed to use a saying like that anymore. And those types of sayings were all over that show.

Man, people used to not be such pussies about shite like that.

You're entirely missing the point if All In The Family.

That show was cutting edge in it's time. If I remember correctly, it was the first time we heard a toilet flush on tv.

On the other side, you had Sanford and Son which made fun of white people. Different time period for sure:

American Masters was about Norman Lear last night. Fantastic.

Just looked and it's on again tonight at 1:00am. Well worth the 90 minutes.

You couldn't go anywhere near those scripts with a ten foot pole these days.

Or what about making Gorilla cookies with Esther's face on Sanford and son?

Gone.

Norman Lear gave the network brass constant headaches. He didn't push the limit, he punched right through it.

Three's company was considered risqué bc a guy lived with two girls.

Even funnier was the plot had the landlord only allow it bc Jack had to pretend to be gay.

I like All in the Family and a lot of the other shows from the 60's, 70's, and 80's. I watch ME TV and Antenna TV more than anything else.

Two great Archie moments for the non-butthurts.

I'm usually not one to say Germans, but doesn't everyone know this about all in the family?

Fun fact: Eric Cartman is inspired by Archie Bunker. Trey Parker said that he thought the only way an Archie Bunker would be acceptable today is if he were in 3rd grade
