I just picked up a Remington 1100 in excellent condition. My question is, would it hurt the gun to shoot 2-3/4" steel shot through it ? I don't want to damage the gun but just thought about using it to duck hunt with.

Just as long as it isn't more than 30 yrs old it should be fine.

Got my 1100 when I was 14. Tha was 35 years ago. Been shooting 3 in magnums, # 4 steel shot since it became mandatory. Never had any issues with it.

As long as it's modified or more open than that it'll be fine.

I am not really sure of the age of it but it is a modified choke. Going to try to find out how old it is.
It is in excellent shape and paid $200 for it. Couldn't pass it up.

Got mine when I was 16 - 40 years ago- and shot steel once it was mandatory with no problems. Only problem I've ever had with it is it hangs up on low brass.

But mine only shoots 2 3/4" so once my wife gave me the Super Black Eagle II it sits in the closet more than anything. But it brings back some great memories.

That's awesome I love a good 1100

Dads wingmaster from the late 70's has a fixed modified 28" barrel and patterns everything extremely well.

We have an 1100 form the first year it ever came out. Shoots steel fine.

Yup, mine has a mod barrel on it with no threads. I believe it is from the late 60s/early 70s

You can find some websites that show how the S/N were stamped for each year. Unfortunately I couldn't find mine on there

Here's a random one LINK. I'm not pulling mine out to check the S/N on that website, but I've checked a couple of other ones, and it wasn't there

unrealistic concern, the shot cup protects the barrel...
keeping the 2 gas ports in the barrel clean will eliminate the faulty ejection issue...

I've got a 20 gauge and a 12 gauge . How do you tell what kind of barrel you have?

Bought my 20 gauge 1100 in 1978 with full choke barrel
Have put a truck load of 2 3/4" steel shot through it
No issues at all

I bought my 1100 in 1971. I thought it to be reliable because I previously used a Model 12 20 guage. Last season was the first time that I duck hunted in several years. I simply did not have the range of the other hunters and did not attempt pass shots. The folks at Gator Guns in Sulphur, LA told me that the barrell was not designed for steel shot and why it could be unsafe using them. Give them a call.

I purchased a Benelli for this upcoming season but used the 20 guage for the teal hunts.
